Will You Still Download? Your Thoughts

Morality and music do not go hand in hand- Its not me the downloader thats fucking over the Metal band- its the record companies, the price they charge for cds, the contracts bands sign- exorbient studio fees- music video fees, lawyer fees, tour managers etc- I may not buy a bands album- but i'll tell my friends about them, and go to their concert if they come to town.

What you say here is what most people believe, however, it is not completely true.
The band gets about 10% (out of this percentage the band will pay the studio-fee), record-label 30% , the distributor 5% and the store gets 55% of the total price. This may differ slightly from band to band, but you get the general idea here. There are two factors here that isn't really needed, that only adds to the price, the distributor and the cd-store, one does not need the cd-stores these days, the record-companies could easily sell the cd's online for half of what the cd-stores sell them for now. I buy my cd's online anyway, and I much rather prefer to buy it directly from the label if possible, I rather help the record label to make money than to help the cd-store (which is the real leech in the music-biz).
Some of the major labels will make more money than others, since they are shareholders and owners of the bigger cd-store chains, and in some cases they also have their own distribution network, meaning they save on the tax.

but mainly because it ruins the euphoric feeling of anticpating a release, marking it on your calender, waiting for the day, it finally comes, you drive to the record store, get there the moment it opens, run to the rack, grab the CD in your still shower wet hands, run to the cashier with a huge ecstatic smile on your face, tearing off the plastic, and blowing your load listening to the CD you've been waiting for, for who knows how long.QUOTE]

Unwritten rule of law enforcement...The stiffer the penalty, the tougher it is to catch the perp. Some commy lawyer fuck from the ACLU will take this all the way to the Supreme court. Being the first person to be prosecuted will just make you a celeb.

Fuck them. I`ll keep on downloading and checking out stuff before I buy it. I`ve bought too much shitty music to even consider taking samples and store-listenings at face value. I buy more CDs than ever now thanks to Mp3`s assuring me of the quality of music before I buy it...

Though, I can understand the sentiment of the recordcompanies. I have many friends who pirate everything that isn`t hardware, that have 50-60 GBs of Mp3s and not a single legally purchased CD or DVD. I buy lots of either, and they laugh at me for doing so. I`m not kidding.
