Wings of Forever - PowerQuest

Cover artwork and album title already tell us that PowerQuest is a
Melodic-Power-Metal band. Recently this acts as a deterrent because most
of those new bands rarely kept what they had promised. Different to
these men: "Wings of Forever" is produced very cleanly and after a short
Intro it begins with the titletrack, which is very powerful. Harmonious
singing with well-fitting keyboards and a superb melody-line award this
song to a class of its own. Also "Far Away" attacks bravely forward and
ends in an awesome refrain. Tracks like the epic "Power Quest" or
"Beyond the Stars" which is more atmospheric really point out that on
"Wings of Forever" you're looking for weaknesses in vain. A good job,
which does not reinvent Power Metal, but it really represents an
enrichment to the genre.

Here's what Fireworks magazine had to say about the album. The review is in the new issue of the magazine

POWER QUEST
Wings of Forever
Underground Symphony

I've always been surprised by the lack of quality power metal bands from the
UK. I guess Iron Maiden are the grandads of them all, responsible for
Helloween who themselves went on to spawn a whole movement of similarly
sounding, Euro speed-metal bands, all vying for a slice of an
ever-decreasing pie. But where were the British pretenders to the throne?
Nowhere to be seen.
However, that has all changed with the advent of Power Quest. Their demo CD
caused me to prick up my ears about a year ago, but their fully fledged
album, 'Wings of Forever', has really impressed me. Sure, the album has its
fair share of galloping double bass-drums tracks in the Helloween vein, but
what sets Power Quest apart is their use of keyboards, with Steve Williams'
keys being intergral to their sound rather than just an additional
seasoning, a fact displayed on the majestic instrumental opening 'Prelude to
Destiny'. The keyboards and guitars continue to constantly battle throughout
the album, both vying for supremacy, neither ever winning but complementing
each other magnificently in the process - just listen to the outrageous one
and a half minute intro to 'Follow Your Heart' for example.
Elsewhere we have the almost eight minute long 'Power Quest' which reminds
me of epic Ten during the two minute intro. A thoughtful song with a
welcomed change of pace and an amazing guitar/drum instrumental mid-section.
The closest we get to a ballad is 'Immortal Plains', and if I'm honest, I
must admit that vocalist Alessio Garavello's style doesn't suit this tempo
very well, and I'm also guessing that at least this one member of the band
is not British.
But that's the only downside as elesewhere we have an explosive mix of
Helloween and Maiden - with keyboards! These guys can certainly play, and as
much as I love this debut, I'm sure the second album is going to be a
monster!
Wonderful stuff, and I can't wait to see them live.

Along with the likes of Dragonforce and Shadowkeep, Power Quest are doing
their level best to raise the profile of the UK melodic power metal scene.
Formed a couple of years back by keyboard player Steve Williams, the band
take their inspiration from such internationally renowned acts as
Stratovarius, Freedom Call, and Rhapsody, their sound on debut album "Wings
Of forever" leaning more towards the latter two-although every once in a
while you get a certain lick or riff that is pure Stratovarius. Dominated by
up tempo galloping riffs punctuated with urgent keyboard stabbs, the ten
songs which comprise this release are enthusiastic, yet suprisingly classy
slices of molten power metal.Obviously we are dealing with a young band
still learning their craft, but its heartening to hear songs as catchy as
'Glory tonight', 'Freedom of thought' and 'Power Quest(pt1)', especially
from a bunch of Brits... Ok, I know the vocalist is Italian, but you get my
point. I'm not normally one to take sides, but if I had to choose, I'd say
that Power Quest were the band with the best chances of making it
internationally at this stage (D. Cockett).

Power Quest - Wings Of Forever

I have a heart for needy artists. So I bought a CD from the Mechandise-Guy of Arena (Steve Scott) of his Band 'Power Quest'. He told me, that this music is nothing for prog-ears and so 'Power Quest' is not the support act for Arena. He said something about Power Metal in the style of Stratovarius or Edguy and so I didn't hesitate to buy the CD (the frequently visitors of my homepage will know, that I like such kind of music). And what can I say ... 'Wings Of Forever' is a direct kick in the ass for all Power-Metal-Freaks. After the short (and symphonic) 'Prelude' with the title-track you will get a fist in the mouth so you think that Edguy and so on are little milk drinking boys. Fat and very fast drums, Formula One - Speed Bass, horny keyboards, a guitar fast as lightning and a voice that sounds like 'Sonata Arctica'. 'Far Away' starts with a multi-voice and is the next metal-hymn. And it goes on an on until Track 5 ('Power Quest Part 1'), a Mid-Tempo-Track wich sounds like Stratovarius. With 'Beyond The Stars' ends the 'nice' part with more power. The obligatory ballad isn't missing and follows with 'Immortal Plains'. After again two more super-songs finishes the CD with the Outro (very good but still too short).
Conclusion: This CD, produced by Threshold-Boss Karl Groom and Arena-Keyboarder Clive Nolan is the hammer under all Power-Metal-CDs and I can only say, that everybody MUST have the CD if he like fast, hard music. I'm sorry but I can not say where you can buy the CD in Germany. At Amazon there is only the very expensive Japan-Release available. But I will try to find it out and will complete my review. You MUST HAVE the CD.
