Does anyone listen to this band? I've heard a few songs, and that woman on vocals really does have a lovely voice. Which is their best album?

What I've heard of Mother Earth sounds great. I wanna check out some more of it too, but I know I'll like it so will buy anyway.

Try to get the 2cd of Mother Earth, that way you have some videoclips and live recordings of old stuff. They have released 2 albums so far and ome mcd.

The albums are:
Enter
Mother Earth

The MCD is called: The Dance

Their earlier stuff features grunts as well as Sharon den Adel on vocals.
I've already seen them 4 times this year. They are a very good life band.

Mother Earth is stunning, it's just such an infectious album, all the songs rock (heh, my dad even likes it, he thinks Sharon sounds like Kate Bush. Not sure if that's a good thing..... ). Enter is also quite good (but quite different!). Sharon has really developed as a singer. And I like the fact that she headbangs live, an actual metal chick as opposed to some tacked-on goth vocalist or something who just stands there looking bored ;)

Within temptation, the current number 1 in the belgium hitlists.

FUCK ALL THESE FAGULEUS TRENDIES WHO FUCKED UP WITHIN TEMPTATION

They gave an interview on donna, the nightmare of any metalhead, their slogan is "the fun, the hits"; everybody in my class listens to them, even the pop/dance/trance fans...

somewhat like Nightwish, also with opera vocals. The first CD contained opera vocals AND grunts, but they lost the grunts on the new CD

First album (Enter) is doomy, with growls and female vox (though they are a bit weak, and not operatic). Mother Earth is more commercial sounding, alot of strings and stuff added, and more streamlined songs. More upbeat too, not doomy, more just straight metal. All-female vocals, and Sharon puts in a really good performance.

...but totally i hate female vocal.........now i'm understand that their all playing some kinda doom metal.......with female vocal......i'm sorry that my opinion will make your heart broken......totally and i repat, I HATE FEMALE VOCAL!!!!!!!!

Thought phyre was more open-minded, if Within Temptation isn't strictly a gothic/death/doom (or whatever, I hate the labels!) band... where's the problem?! I think Within Temptation tried to follow the gothic-doom fashion (fuckin' labels again) in their two first albums ("The Dance" and "Enter"), applying their own style but with a notorius lack of experience yet. Was with "Mother Earth", with a great production, compositions and arrangements (and the lovely voice of a lovely girl), when the success arrived.

Mother Earth isn't the typical metal album with female vocals, you'll find so many original elements and a particular sound on each song.

However, I'll wait till the next album to decide if they're solid or only a lucky band.

To say they're a gothic-doom-metal band is to say too much, but... pop?! Anyway, I respect your preferences, obviously, but I reckon that music is something more than complicated scales, drummers doing four rythms at the time and a chinese bassist playing with fourteen strings. I love Dream Theater, I love Dave Weckl, I love Andromeda, I love Empty Tremor,Opeth and I love Dark Tranquillity... but... I love the music itself. And sometimes the simplicity is the key. Just ride the melody.
