also then, if mentioning none metal bands, for ethereal drifty type stuff, check out lush and the cranes, "wings of joy" by the cranes is both gorgeous, and scarily weird!!

Alas- this is the band headed by the opera singer that is currently with Therion.
Mid tempo stuff but pretty if you like her Therion stuff.

Flowing Tears is a good one. They just recruited a new singer, Helen Vogt, who'll be on their upcoming album. Stefanie Duchêne (who's a great vocalist) was their singer for three albums.

Brave is another good one. They're actually local to my area. I'm going to see Lacuna Coil this Friday in VA and Brave is among the opening bands. They're a favorite in the MD/DC/VA area.

Although they're really more hard rock, rather than metal, I really liked Hammerbox. They've long since broken up, though. Carrie Akre, their vocalist, has other projects including Goodness (also defunct) and is now doing solo stuff.
Hammerbox's album 'Numb' was great.
