Bands with Dual Vocalists

Dimmu Borgir does it quite well, possibly Acturus...I can't think of anything that you don't already know or that hasnt been mentioned.

I was just coming back to say this... and isn't it 3? I thought there were 3 when I saw them a few years ago?

I saw them, and they had two.

I like 3 Inches Of Blood.
Yeah I know, nobody else does.

apparently somebody does. they're signed to Metal Blade and have done some shows with Maiden...

although i never understood the purpose for having the "screamer" there. and the other guy just gets better and better. i remember seeing them after the release of their first album and they sucked! MUCH better now.

saw them with Exodus last year. aprx 450 people there. less than a hundred people stuck around to watch Exodus after 3 Inches of Blood got off stage

Dark Tribe do as well I think and I'd guess Mourning Beloveth does too.

Generally I dont like dual vocalists though, especially when you get clean / growl contrast that is done really poorly.

Obviously there are plenty of bands with two vocalists who alternate, and many bands who overdub clean vocals and growls from the same vocalist (Agalloch, Orphaned Land etc) but not so many bands with two vocalists who sing harmonies eg Arcturus (a few tracks only) and Asmegin come to mind...

The one that stands out and I'm surprised has not been mentioned yet is Solefald. The triple vocal harmonies on 'Sun I Call' has to be heard to be believed (clean male vox, growled male vox and clean female vox). Gives me shivers every time I hear it.

The dual vocal approach of having male growls and female singing(beauty & the beast) is generally a dual vocal approach that sticks out to me and makes more sense than having two singing vocalists or two growling vocalists.

examples

Theatre of Tragedy: Growled male vocals and female singing.

Tristania: Growled vocals, some female vocals, and regular male vocals. Tristania might actually use three vocalists.

it can work well in extreme vocals too...

wasn't Woods of Ypres' "Against the Seasons" done with 2 vocalists? one for the lower growls and one for the high-pitched screams?

I remeber the album has alot of dual growls/screams. You know what I mean when you hear the intro to "crossing the 45th parallel."

Although I think they have 2 vocalists. Not for what you said, but for clean vocals and growl/scream vocals.

I have recently discovered this band, which uses three very intense and high-pitched vocals! They have three male vocalists with a very powerful vocal style with harmonies, similar to power metal but they are not power metal. They have a few albums including a christmas album even... I would describe them as being some of the best in their style...

btw, here is a video of this band
