WOODS OF YPRES at 'Noctis II' in Calgary, Alberta, Canada!!

If you missed it sucks to be you! The concert was fucking awesome and I think its the best $15 I ever spent (minus of course the money spent on shirts, CD's, and beer lol). Woods and Verbal Deception were the two best bands IMO and every band was enjoyable with the exception of Ahab who were a snooze. I felt like going to go have a sleep in the corner like some random hobo. Anyway the set was a surprise they played "Ontario Town..." then all the songs from "Against the Season" and then "Northern Cold." I don't know the old songs as well as the songs from Woods II and III, but oh well it was amazing to rock out and see one of my favourite groups live and personal. It was awesome finally meeting David and of course Brian... didn't get to talk to the other guys that much though. My only complaint was the shitty sound I couldn't hear David's vocals to well front and center, but my cousin who was off to the side said she could hear the vocals well... the vocals were kind of hit and miss all night. If I was blind I would've thought the opener, Urheimat, was just a sick instrumental band. Still though good crowd, good energy, good times, good metal what more could one ask for?

Heh, yeah Steve told me they were gonna bust that out. Glad to hear epic times were had, I suppose a n-ice black metal "warm up" (er... cooling down) for the cold winter months ahead, no?

Just got back...let's see...

The whole trip was a blast!!! We had a great time on stage. As mentioned, we played "Ontario..." "The N.C.", and all of "Against the Seasons", I taught the crowd a couple words in Finnish before KORPIKLAANI came out...I got to see some old friends, LOTS of new ones, we went drinking with all the bands crew and locals at the after party at the downtown Sheraton, we all got kicked right out of the hotel at 2 am when the party was busted by the cops (noise complaints, so they said...but it was pretty unreal to try to hold an international 20 pizza / metal keggar in a fancy hotel)! I grabbed a Texas mickey of Crown Royal whiskey off the counter and walked right out of there...+ it made it home in my luggage in one piece. :) Uh, what else...ate Alberta beef, drank some nice pints of dark beer...

Very big and sincere thanks to all the crew, bands and especially all the crazy Calgary metalheads who came out to see and support the NOCTIS festival! I never had as much fun on stage as I did on Saturday in Calgary! You guys were great!!! Made our job feel easy. :) Thanks for screaming along!

Gtg, need sleep! Hopefully some photos will surface.

At home, burial ground...

Fuckin awesome! Its one thing to drink listening to Korpiklaani, but its a whole different story to drink WITH them! Blasting metal, beer, beef and booze, sounds like it was a wicked time :kickass:

The entire experience from top to bottom was amazing! Playing, partying .. and as Dave mentioned.. being booted out of a fancy hotel and wandering up the streets to find another one @ 2am with all of our gear was definitely a highlight :). The NOCTIS festival is surely to grow if Therese keeps running the festival as such. It was completely well organized, amazing sound and hospitality. I've never had more fun playing a gig than I did that night. INCREDIBLE metal scene up there and those people knew how to rock the fuck out. Cannot wait to go back!!!

Here are a few pics I personally took from the show. I am awaiting a few emails with more.. will post of course!

Cool pics! I wish I could have been there for you guys & Korpiklaani. I should have asked one of you cats to buy me a Korpiklaani longsleeve and I would've paid for it + the shipping! It would have been cheaper than buying one from overseas.

The Korpiklanni crew packed up their merch table at literally 8pm. they completely sold out of everything and the lineups were ridiculous!

Or as one person said after the 2nd song "Woods of Fuck Yes!" Even the grim looking security guy managed to crack a smile at that one. I have the greatest expression on my face in that first pic lol. I'm to the left behind the black looking kid and then you can see my arm and my grey watch rising from some where lol. Every aspect of Woods was unbelievable and I got my innocent looking cousin to raise the metal horns for the first time in her life! :kickass:

I left after the amazing Woods performance. I bought a Gates CD and got everyone to sign it. I was also laughing to myself at how many people thought the guys in Gates were from Woods. Great job on the set guys! Was a little disappointed that I couldn't hear David too well but I sang every word to every song so that's alright. Wish we could've partied with you guys after... =(

Oh yeah and Against the Seasons on tape signed by David! \m/

Vocals were plenty loud through the monitors from where I stood (+ I was givin' 'er everything!) and from what I heard, they were nice and loud to most of the audience. I think they might have seemed a little quiet if you were right up front because everything else was so loud! There was that dude that said he had to 'take a break' from the pit because the guitars were taking his head off!

After about the third song you could hear the vocals in the mix a lot better. I noticed though if I was standing off to the side everything was clear, but right in the middle the vocals were kind of hit and miss. That's just a minor complaint of an otherwise memorable night! Also, David was the guy to your right the lead singer/guitarist of Verbal Deception? That guy is a fucking wicked guitarist!
