work flow?

im just curious what peoples workflow is like? do you just record guitar straight through or do each part at a time? im just curious what other people do.

i tend to just make people just record straight through the whole song and fix little parts.

I tend to record part by part especially when quad-tracking guitars but it depends on the musicians really.

It depends on the song and the player, but I find that playing through the transitions is important even if I plan on cutting and pasting a great deal. I think it would be hard to stand behind the quality of every part just in playing straight through. Even when Im really proficient at playing something to the tee I still go in and find things to focus on.

On this current recording, we did part by part, unless the guy could do more than one part in one go, but it'd typically just be part by part. It's much easier, because you can focus on getting each part right, rather than the whole thing.

It's mostly part by part in as large a section as the player can cope with.
