Working with professionals

I did the album "Changes" and the tone was with a POD XT PRO.

I thought so. Every time I hear that a POD XT was used on an album, I get pissed that I can't even come close to one of those tones.

I'll buy the DVD titled Joey Sturgis' POD XT Extacy.

lol

we used a diamond plate model
quad tracked
2 with tube screamer
2 without

one guy played all the parts, so it was super tight between the takes.

pretty sure it was EMG pickups and an old Ibanez

I read that the other day, seems like it was about a different mix and tried it myself. I really liked the results, but I've yet to work with anyone that can double their own parts tightly.

I've seen you say that you used the Diamond Plate several times, are there any other models that end up on your productions? Most of them (models) sound really dark or muffled to me. Treble all the way up doesn't sound good, but below that there's no brightness.

no i pretty much use just the diamond plate, only

Yeah man crank the presence for sure. Where do you usually run your bass at Joey?

As for big names to work with. I have toured with hatebreed, God Forbid, Agnostic Front and play Hellfest. all of which were amazing experiences. I also got the chance to hang with the dudes from Shinedown last year.

12 'o clock!

i've recorded over 500 bands, and met a few celebs. hmmm, about the best i can mention is meeting underoath and saosin on the prada tour. at one point we played call of duty on the bus, it was rad times, not a care in the world!

Thanks for the response man! The Underoath guys are awesome dudes. My old band Bloodjinn played a fest with them years ago and they were just all around great dudes. Spencer's, brother's new band is great band too.

I've done FOH for a ton of tours (Between The Buried And Me, Animosity, The Ataris, Born Of Osiris, etc etc etc), and did records for bands like For The Fallen Dreams, See You Next Tuesday, Red I Flight, Attila, And Hell Followed With... more like smaller label names I suppose. Also, Vince from Acacia Strain came to my studio to cut the guest vocals for the Red I Flight album on Victory. Still waiting on that big project though! It's all about paying dues. :-)

no dude, this guy claims he did a for the fallen dreams record but definately did not. he recorded a few demos, which i unfortunately had to listen to when the band came in for the LP.

dude, you have not done a for the fallen dreams record! stop telling everyone you have! Changes was the first release and was produced by me.

Your claim to fame is false. :Puke:

lmao:lol:

also, i thought the SYNT stuff was done at Planet Red studios.

I have mastered a few cool things.

Metal wise: Aura Noir, Virus, The Breathing Process, Rose Funeral, Diskreet, CryForSilence, Octavia, Panic Cell... and a ton of other (local/small) I don't remember...

Other stuff: Jarboe, Plan B, Guapo, The Big Pink (Alan Molder mix), soundtrack for the film Adulthood, stuff for Neurosis label, stuff for Mike Pattons label... and many other things I don't remeber.

I haven't had the chance to master a chart hit, but that may happen this year :)

Band/touring-wise: Decapitated, The Rotted, Testament, Zyklon, Entombed, Cathedral and some others.

I dated the neice of the gtr player for the 80's band KIX.
hahaha, i know thats not what the thread was about. I havent worked with anyone professional, as ive only done a couple local band things. awesome thread though!

ARGH!

How on earth is that a podxt. I hate my life haha

You and me both. All the same model even and sound SO different and good.

On topic: I've recorded bands that have played with big acts. Does that count?

I've done live engineering stuff bunch of Finnish bands (~950 gigs and 500 bands and ~50 different venues) and some foreign bands (usually monitors, but I have done the FOH for a few)

True - Ive mixed monitors for a few big bands too - Necrophagist, Poison the Well, Dawn of Azazel, etc.
Have teched for a bunch of cool bands too (String tech + general stage tech) - Aborted, Dying Fetus, Underoath, As I Lay Dying, Cult of Luna, Monarch to name a few from the past 6 weeks or so

Red I Flight album was recorded and mixed by Jamie King I thought?

From there Myspace....

"Victory did not pass on Red I Flight the second time. "The Years" recorded and produced by Jamie King, was released in March of 2008. Red I Flight now with a full length under their belt."

I've never once claimed to do the changes album, nor the red i flight victory release (jamie did the whole record, but as i said in my post vince tracked the guest vocals for one of the songs at my studio). the ferret release of synt's album was done with andreas, i did their cd before that. i'm just saying i've worked with and recorded those bands. nowhere in my credits does it say that i recorded changes.
chill joey.

biggest band ive had in my own studio so far has been.... the breathing process.and and some mixtape mix work with some pretty big rappers on some decent mixtapes... im about to start all the demo work on tbp's next album.... worked prior at a 20000 seat venues as foh /monitor eng/tech for 5 years..while learning the studio ropes i worked with just about every major tour in some way .....now trying to do it in the studio with a long ways to go..............

Yea you probably should have put "I did demo's" instead of "I did albums" for those bands. Just a thought still cool you got to work with these bands though and have that on your plate.....

i did foh on a european tour for a swing/jive/ska band from the us. they landed double platin in the states a few years ago afaik. this has been my bigges job. was traveling in a nightliner with the band for 26days and 25shows. all the shows were form 250 to 1200ppl.

we even had a plane ride to one of the shows and back. we worked out great i guess so i consider my self to be their european sound guy.

also antoher foh tour i did, was my first tour ever, i've done with an upcomming country artist from norway. we were supporting a very big german band. i was on the road with the band in a van/hotels for 4 weeks. we had support and solo shows, solo shows were just to fill the off days in between the big shows. solo shows had 30-200 listeners. the supportshows were normally from 1800 to 3500ppl. biggest show was 8700ppl. i still get a little rush when i think about the pa system and all the ppl. was amazing, for the support shows i was allowed to use the main bands foh console which was a digico d1. no restrictions for us what so ever, we even used the bass and guitar gear at some point in the tour. because we got along that well.

a few impressions from that tour:
