Canada always play bad at the group stages, and all they care about is to get on, so as soon as the quarter finals start we'll see :). anyways Martin Brodeur is the worst choice for the goalie position. But I guess Canada will never have a second Patrick Roy anymore :( . Well anyway at least Switzerland are doing quite well for their standards, which is of course thanks to the very good goalie (only NHL player we have :/).

He hasn't played high level hockey for a season now thanks to the lockout. So he definately is a bad choice. Why the hell do you otherwise think theyre playing without players like Sakic, Iginla, Tanguay and Lecavalier? Sure Rick Nash and Joe Thornton are great (Both played for this years Swiss Champion last season) sbut with the players I anmed before they'd be way better, but I understand very well, that players who have played the last season are chosen over ones who haven't.
The game against Sweden proves that Brodeur is out of form, 4 of the 5 goals he let in were his fault.

I live in Canada. That makes them "us" in my vocabulary, but since my brother is on the Swedish bench, emotionally, it's really a toss-up! I have no idea what Team Canada's probelm is. They are going up against a really young Swedish team since the "big boys" have decided not to play because of the politics with the coach and all, and all the canucks could manage to do was blow a good lead and play like chippy little fucks. two different styles of hockey. one requires brains, one requires brawn. I still prefer the old Swedish brain method, but that's just personal choice.

Both Canada and Sweden have great teams, and the young players Sweden has are very good, especially Sedin. But well Canada never play well in the Group Stages, they usually just make the 2nd or 3rd place in their group, but as soon as it comes to the quarter finals they go back to playing amazing. But as I already said I don't really like their lineup, they really only have two top offensive players, being Rick Nash and Joe Thornton, who also almost score all the goals. The Team just somehow doesn't fit together. I eman if you take a look at Switzerland, the only real star player they have is Martin Gerber, who is the goalie of Annaheim, the rest are jsut Swiss league palyers, but they fit together as team and so they play quite well for the circumstances they're in.
But I guess with Canada, they'll never have a team like they had in Nagano '98, where Gretzky, Lemieux and especially Roy played. The game against the Czechs(they also had an amazing Team, with Dominik Hasek ofcourse ;)) was just amazing.
Well hope to see Canada get better and win this worldcup, let Luongo play and not Brodeur, he clearly seems out of form. For me as a Canadian, who has swedish friends it's important that my team wins ^^.

I don't like Brodeur at the moment either, probably due to the fact that the NHL never got anyone up and at em this year. You'd think it'd be the opposite, where because none of the players are tied up in the NHL, the Swedish and Canadian teams (among others) should be able to play their best players (in the case of the European teams, players both from the "home" league and the NHL, I mean). That players' boycott of the Swedish team must hurt, but maybe it's for the better, as these boys don't seem to be doing too badly?!

Many players, at least for Canada weren't taken into the roster, because due to the lock out, they didnt play at all this season. I think they only took players who played either in European leagues or in other leagues in North America. And trust me Sweden have almost all their best players out there ( I mean Sedin and Alfredsson are amazing) and also Canada should be better with this lineup. The only players I think, who'd really make a big difference are: Sakic, Iginla and Tanguay, mainly because for about the last 5 years they've always been in the top 10 of the NHLs topscorer list. But well for us here in switzerland the lock out was great, because we got many of NHL's great players to come and play in our league (mainly because the Swiss teams have quite a lot of money), like Nash and Thornton and Hagman and Heatley, and Tanguay was even injured on our Ice :P
Oh and TheLastwithPaganBlood I'm more fucked up than you think, I have a Canadian, a Swiss and an Australian Passport. But hey it gets me around the world without having to get Visas :/

I live in Finland and therefore am forced to hope Finland wins.. something that is not going to happen.. so actually the only reason I watch the games is to see Finland go down and then I can rest a year in peace.

and what about the Czechs? we also play very good hockey and i'm sure we'll win against the USA...'cause we're the best!

Yeah the Czechs definately own, they have a very aggressive team going in with a lot of bodychecks. From my view probably the best team when it comes to that. Technically I'd have to say Sweden and Canada and at Goaltending probably Switzerland (Gerber ahs also palyed an awesome lock out season with Färjestad). So I think that pretty much the best teams got on and I'm really glad that Germany and Austria are in B now :P
So lets hope we get to see some interesting games, and maybe we're even in for some suprises (yeah I hope Switzerland beats Sweden :D)

Dearest LastPagan, may I point out to you that we don't have a fatherland, but rather a MOTHERland. Her name is Svea.
I have two daughters whom I love in equal proportions, but I love them each differently.
I have two brothers whom I love in equal amounts, but I love each one in a different way.
I have two fathers whom I love equally, but in different ways.
I have two homecountries, both of whom I love in equal amounts, only differently.
I have betrayed none of them.
