Dass mit Wormfoods «France» wohl ein weiterer Genrebastard auf meiner Audiospeisekarte gelandet war, war beinahe von Anfang an klar wie das eben so ist mit Veröffentlichungen unter dem Banner des «extreme Metal». Was da alles in einen Topf geworfen wird muss man nicht einzeln erwähnen, denn auch bei Wormfood ist das Prinzip klar. Das Ziel soll dabei folgendes sein: A bizarre and grotesque sonic-picture of modern French society eine Art Konzeptalbum also.
Neben uninspiriertem Allerweltsgeböller findet sich regelmäßig das Akkordeon im Aufgebot und macht France zu einem geeigneten Soundtrack zum Weißbrotkauf. Wären die Zutaten nicht so arg inhomogen miteinander vermengt (das Kauderwelsch zwischen Französisch und Englisch ist eines der offensichtlicheren Beispiele) - France könnte durchaus ins Ohr gehen. So aber bleiben Titel wie TEGBM zwar durchaus interessant und irgendwie auch ein bisschen originell, weitaus mehr aber wie gerade erwähnt uninspiriert.
Dass die Scheibe tatsächlich ein verlässliches Bild des gegenwärtigen Frankreich vermittelt, wage ich zu bezweifeln. France ist keines jener Alben, die man einlegen kann, wenn man auditive Kraft tanken will, selten fordern die 47 Minuten zum aktiven Hören auf es scheint mir beinahe so, als verlange die Scheibe danach, als Beilage serviert zu werden.
In Richtung Avantgarde lässt sich ja noch einiges machen im Metal, ist dies doch ein weit weniger ausgelutschtes Genre als etwa Death und Core. Die Ansätze bei Wormfood sind teilweise als Klagexperimente interessant, als Musik vermögen sie jedoch nicht, mich zu überzeugen.
