WTB: Framus Cobra or 5150 III

Cobra sounds like a blend between a Rectifier and a 5150... there's really no reason to own one either. You have your bases covered.

All high gain amps with 6L6s and five gain stages start sounding the same after a while. I feel like the 5150 III CAN do a lot the 5150 can't, despite it sounding the same in that test. It's a big part the player, but you'll find an amp that jives with someone better and it just clicks.

The cobra has a unique character no other high-amp has.
Listen to parkway drive - horizon.

This is 100% cobra.

Its a love hate thing with this amp, but I always have my eyes open for it :)

Acctualy I'm not really sure about that. I hear yet again and again that the Cobra is a blend between a recto and a 5150 but I just don't hear this in my amp. And it's driven by el34 btw :D

Poidaobi posted a reamp done with all three amps and the same mic position, etc, through the same cabinet. The Cobra either sounded the worst, or was the worst dialed in, and would likely be a blindshot guess if you had to choose between that and the 5150 or Rectifier. The preamp circuitry of the three amps are so insanely similar, and when the same player is through all three...

From what I've heard and played. They are both awesome amps. If you're after that typical 5150 tone, but honestly, a little more unique today, then the 5150 III is your man. It's one of the best amps I've played lately. The Framus, I love it just as much. Spent about 4 hours with it a few months back, and pulled some damn fun tones even without an OD! So I wan damn happy with that amp. Personally, for unique sake, I'd buy the Framus. But you'll be happy with either one IMO.

No issues with my Cobra here. I paid 1300 for mine. It's definitely a unique amp. I'm very accustomed to 5150s and it takes some getting used to. Good luck with the search.
