I guess no one is selling an SM7 but:

Is someone willing to get me one in the US and send it to germany? They're quiet expensive over here ($600). If I would buy it at a shop I would have to pay taxes (so I will pay the same) for importing but you just could send it as a present. no taxes. I'm gasing for some other mics as well. just need to know if anyone is willing to do that at all.

would be highly appreciated.

yup. should work. it's like sending a family member a present... they would charge taxes for that in finland? I mean that would seriously suck. Just imagine someone is making you a gift and you have to pay for it.

It used to be a very common way to order stuff here, but nowadays I hear more and more stories about the toll people going SS on every single shipment, carefully judging if it's actually a present or not :ill: Don't know if it still works every now and then, though, since I haven't even tried it myself.

in Italy even if you claim it's a present/gift they will charge you vat/taxes/whatever.
When I bought my mesa (it was an used amp) I had to pay anyway even though I claimed it was a "gift" ...
Nowdays as Jarkko said it's impossible everywhere to buy gear without paying taxes, that's because euro is stronger now I guess.

Yeah if I send something as a gift anywhere they still get charged customs and taxes, same as if I receive anything here marked as a gift. I think you're SOL dude. Best bet is to get someone to value it at like $75 and only pay the taxes on that lower amount, but you are paying something no matter what.

hm, I bought a lot of stuff from the us (we ordered a few shirts for around $120 on time and I had some smaller orders) the last few month and it wasn't even marked as a present. no taxes. got my loadbox (was around $150) from the US, no taxes.

I'm getting a guitar made by Will. I REALLY HOPE THEY WONT CHARGE TAXES FOR THAT!!!! they wouldn't be able to find out what it's worth anyway... man that sucks.

taxes are minimal, the problem is that you have to pay
"Umsatzsteuer" (about 19%) I would calculate that and try the
"gift" thing. even if it does not pass, you should still get
it cheaper than here in germany.

cheers
S.

I could order it to helgoland, I know someone there. They don't have any "Umsatzsteuer". Another reason why everyone their is an alcoholic ;)

God damn it. We just could give it a try and see. So if anyone is willing to do that, maybe unpack the mic from it's original package so it's not as obvious?

anyone else from germany has any recent experiences with ordering from the us?

The bastards have learned to Google shit. This one dude bought a used piece of equipment from the U.S. and the seller valued it significantly lower, but the officers actually spent quite a lot of effort to find the average used price for the item :zombie:

I just need someone to do that for me :) I mean... I would buy that mic anyway so it doesn't matter if it works or not. 50/50 chance I would say!

no, i meant buying a new one, kicking the box a few times around the house so that it looks used. then declare the mic as broken, and BÄHM!!!
it does not cost 350$ anymore...
as far as i know thing that cost less than 80€ are completely free from taxes etc.
just a (criminal!?:D) thought...

thomann says 400€ for me. That's a lot compared to the price in the US. So I was hoping someone would pick one up for me and send it to germany. If I would have to pay taxes it's my bad but it would be cheaper anyway. probably.

I've never actually thought about this but after doing the research even with paying for shipping and VAT I could save about £100 on the price of a new SM7. Not bad at all...

What if I buy one, stuff it in an sm57 box or other mic box, would they know the difference? Declaring <$100 wouldn't be much would it?

Well, sometimes undervaluing works if done smartly and the customs officers don't have much experience with the item in question. Sometimes things even go through unopened if the value isn't that high.

But it can be a really long shot too and they really caught up with strategies.

Trying something like this should be very well considered because not only can it get expensive if hey don't buy onto it, but it's also tax evasion technically, so other charges might follow.
