I explained quite clearly that I didn't know shit about lossy files because I've never used them.

You know damned well my stance/opinion, and knowledge for that matter, when it comes to LIVE recordings. I don't care what you do with your studio stuff.

I have a decent idea, and the point is not whether each user/person can TELL the difference, it's so that the quality of the recording isn't degraded any further.

It also goes without saying that the technology & software exist to vastly improve/restore old recordings.

I would agree with your first point, and yes, there is a limited freq. response on cassettes, but trust me when I tell you that they can be made to sound phenomenal. Of course a lot depends on the quality of the AUDIO to begin with.

when they opened for Pantera in 2001 (?) they were not i repeat NOT incredible, and Pantera blew them away. other times i've seen them they were beyond incredible.
