Getting ready to see them w/ opeth and lacuna coil in SD in a week and I dont know too much about em. Their review on allmusic looked pretty whacky and so I was wondering if anyone had any opinions or thoughts on what they were like...and whether they're worth making sure I get to the concert on time.

I will be seeing them as well
I haven't heard anything but 30 second clips of their songs.
The clips didn't sound that great, but who knows.
I'll definitely be there on time to see them though.

They'll at least be good enough for shits and giggles if nothing else.

Let's put it this way, Yakuza would fit better on a bill that featured a Mike Patton project because they are probally one of the last bands you would expect to see on tour with Opeth due to their style of music. Yakuza is an experimental metalish band, they are experimental because of the way they blend various styles of metal and use a saxaphone in their music.

Probally the best description of them is a more talented version of System of a Down without the political stances.

yeah...I'd rather see Beyond the Embrace

not because I like them so much, but because they'd just fit in so much better than a really quirky band like yakuza.

I feel like yakuza could be interesting/good live, or a complete trainwreck

If they're anything like Mr. Bungle I will definitely be there for their set. Thats really strange that they would be touring with Opeth...I imagine they will not get too much response from the crowd. Cant be any worse than the crowd response for Tapping the Vein though.

Saw them in Atlanta. Yeah, I could see where they'd fit in well with a Fantomas type band. Totally whacked, annoying, and atonal.

I guess you could compare them to system of a down, but only in the regard that they make for a horrible live experience.

Don't see them. They'll make you want to die. They're terrible live.

What the hell? I LOVED them in Houston. I just find that people are way too overly critical and are just too excited to be hours away from seeing opeth, so they can't get into the right mood for the opening band.

Make no mistake, their music is not comparable to Opeth, but I happen to think they were great...hell, I even bought their CD based solely on the impression they left on me. The highlights are the song Yama and Chicago typewriter...the 40 minute song at the end is really cool but gets very repetitive after a while and goes nowhere.

I would see them again if they were to have a gig in my town, and the guitarist is a nice guy too, very friendly.
