I swear that I googled it really hard before open this thread, but I don´t know why I can´t find any review putting these monitors side by side to decide wich one is better. Every review that I read about any of these just says that "it comes to succeed NS10m". F**k, them BOTH? I couldn´t even find which one Yamaha released first.

Anyway, is there any gearjunkie here that tried them both and can tell me which should I buy?

I have the HS50ms and am fine with them, but I specifically remember somebody on here switching from the HS50s to the MSP5s, but for the life of me I can't remember who the hell it was

I have used the MSP5's a lot. They came out years before the HS series. Pretty good monitors, but maybe too bright and hifi sounding. I think the HS series would translate mixes better. I would consider buying HS80M's.

I bought HS80s, and granted they took some getting used to, but i find they translate MUCH better than what I was using...

I'd say go with the HS series... I was able to compare them to, well... everything guitar center had available at the time...

Unless you can afford some ADAMs or Dynaudios or Genelecs... you're in good with some HS80s...

...IMO.

I'd say go for the MSP5a Studio's (the new ones), I've had my MSP5's for 3yrs now and they're great but the new studios are a good improvement. The larger MSP7 Studios are the last monitors to ever be designed by the guy responsible for the NS10's, they are amazing.

I have a set of MSP5's I use when I'm in back in Australia and like them for the $$$. A few years back I mixed half of a project in London on my old Tannoy Reveals and the other half in Australian on my MSP5's in similarly treated rooms and the Yamaha's translated far better.

I just need to get them shipped over here as I'm hardly ever back in Oz these days, so I can use them as a 2nd reference to my Event ASP8's now!

the tapco s5s are a really good monitor as well...as far as i know, theyre cheaper than the msp5. the mids are really well presented.

Thanks for the replies, it looks that both choices are ok, so I will probably pick the HS50M as they were released after the MSP5a : )
