Hey guys, there's a guy here selling a pair, never used, still boxed with the receipt for €250! Anyone have anything good or bad to say about them? Should I pick them up?
Thanks!

haven't used them myself, but the only bad thing anyone seems to have to say about them is that the low end doesn't extend down very far

They sound quite terrible and 'boomboxish'. So if you really need an NS-10-like pair for mega colored referencing, these may be the ticket. Their larger siblings, the HS80ms, are voiced a bit differently and sound like a more full-range, transparent near-field.

HS50's have slightly better stero imaging than the HS80's.

Ive been using the 50's for a year or so, coupled with a decent pair of cans its a great setup. Dont believe all the internet forum hype about the low end. Its really not a problem. If you are careful and use good headphones to monitor the low end then you can do some great mixes on them.

Go get a pair (50 or 80) they are great monitors. They are a little like NS10's, not much tho to be honest. A little more top and bottom. They have a switch on the back to extend the mid a la NS10, doesnt really do the same thing. If you want NS10's buy NS10's, the 50 and 80's are differnt beasts.

using the 50's myself and i quite like them but as mentioned the low end can get tricky but i use my k271's to reference that anyways. I think they are perfect for a bedroom/project studio type set up and certainly useful in a more pro setup as a second reference pair of monitors for that price id say hit it you can always upgrade later on when you grow out of them. I would not recommend getting some higher end monitors unless you have suffienct room treatment going on to get the benifit out of them.

MOAR LOWS FTWbuuAoow.

Hooray!

And I strongly recommend checking out the Tannoy Reveal 5A's, mine are just incredible, I love 'em! Not quite as much bass as the HS80s, but while I haven't directly A/B'ed 'em, I really think they're more detailed with better stereo imaging (simply on account of them being the same price but with lower-powered amps and smaller drivers, so a quality over quantity thing). Here's some reviews:

I was considering the KRK VXT6's that the dude on gearslutz mentions, but they were too expensive for me (and I can't stand that yellow cone ;))

I did a test with my hs50's...I used a Kick track and I put AirKiller on it (a PT plugin). I eliminated every band but the bass band and after this I went down to the minimum (50Hz). I still heard the kick

Whenever I see those Guitar Center "limited edition" KRK RP monitors with the black housing / silver cones or yellow housing / black cones, I have to resist the urge to grab a pair and lacquer the cabs white. I just really really really do not need another set of 6" monitors right now... unless they're Dynaudio. :)

yea well most speakers will produce lower frequencies, but at some point they're produced at a much lower level than everything else

shit my alesis 620's will produce 30hz, but i know damn well that their response isn't flat down to that
