so i have a possible interview with Phantom Planet... here are my questions/problems.

a) i don't know much about the band, but know they are about to make a big PR push. if i do the interview it's sure to bring big hits to the site.

b) if i do the interview will loyal readers think i'm jumping the shark and going big label?

c) jason shwartzman (sp?) isn't in the band anymore, should i even bring that up to them, or are they sick of hearing jason's name?

a) cool. but i don't think they're especially good.
b) depends on what PP's like in a year
c) probably not, but for commercial reasons, you might want to. but i would really, really appreciate it if i were a bandmember and you didn't mention him at ALL--no jokes about famous members, not even a post-interview "aren't you guys glad i didn't mention jason?!?!" gloat.

a) do as much research as you can and go for it.

b) depends on the types of questions you ask; go for weird questions no one else will ask

c) i've never heard of the band - nor this guy either, so i say don't worry about it.

are they on a major? if so, you can always ask them lots of indie vs. major questions and get their insight on the industry.

and I'd avoid all JS questions. it's just classier that way. you're not People magazine.
