You've got to be fucking kidding me 2 ...

The assumption being made here is that this company in question is bad, why?

Not because they might be a poorly run company. Not because the government is trying to allow the security & management of these ports to fall under the influence of a foreign nation (remember, this is already the case and has been for 20 years).

BUT BECAUSE THEY ARE A COMPANY FROM AN ARAB NATION.

So, in summation, the pathetic leap of logic being made here is that they're Arab, so they're bad.

BOOOO!!!!

Exactly! I don't know how you can be so cool about some things but kinda closeminded about others man... if you were like this all the time I'd almost want to have your children

This is the real kicker of the article right here:

Critics say the takeover raises security concerns, noting that two of the hijackers in the September 11, 2001, attacks on New York and Washington came from the UAE, and that the hijackers drew funds from bank accounts in Dubai, the financial center of the Persian Gulf.

So let us sum up the arguments against this company as presented in this excerpt:
- they're Arab
- Arabs blew up the WTC buildings
- this company is based in the city where those terrorists had bank accounts

What I find most laughable is that the article openly states that Dubai is the financial center of the Persian Gulf. Doesn't that kind of clue anyone in to the notion that it might MAKE SENSE that a) a large Arab company is based there and b) other Arabs (some of whom are terrorists) had bank accounts there?

Now, how does it make sense that a company based in the same city where known terrorists held bank accounts is denied control of ports it came into ownership of LEGALLY? Bigotry by any other name is still bigotry.

fuck bigotry ... I think in some ways they are pushing our buttons. Like I said in the past, I am all for blowing money if you have it on whatever you can, but come on, whoever is behind this purchase, and knowing the political climate between these nations right now ... it just would make sense to take the money somewhere else.

do you guys remember Giulliani telling some Arab guy off in the wake of 9/11 ... after he wanted to make some donations?

Yeah, I've yet to read or watch coverage of this story that hasn't spent 3 hours detailing how 2 of the hijackers were from the UAE.

Meanwhile, yesterday some guy lost his shit driving home on Long Island and rammed at least 4 different cars, killing another driver. So basically, all people driving on Long Island are potentially fatal to drive near.

Right? Right?

the political climate between which nations?

The United Arab Emirates has long been an "ally" of the U.S. and a fairly stabile nation, at least given their neighbors. If this deal makes the most business sense, then why should they not be given the chance just because they're an Arab nation?

disclaimed: I have no idea the business/financial implications of the deal, or its longterm ramifications. For all I know, BushCo could be making boatloads of moolah off this and putting our ports in the hands of a bunch of dumb fucks. But let that information surface, it's got nothing to do with where they're from.

Right? Right?

I don't think you are that naive to think that to make it that huge in business where you can buy naval ports ... that your business and ethical practices are 100% kosher [pun intended]

Bush-bashing? wtf?! That's like me calling you a Bush-hugger. Wait...depending on the context, that could be a good thing. :loco:

We might as well had the Japs making our subs after WWII.

Oh, good 'ol corporations, global market, and outsourcing. WOOT!
