Zakk Wylde or Dime

dimebag will always be my favourite guitarist but zakk is a more schooled player and takes a totally different approach to playing, while dime used to pick every 3rd or fouth not in a solo zakk picks everyfucking note and just smokes on the guitar,2 totally diff guitarists with the same attitude to playing.

+1. I could not have said it better bro. Dime had it all... he is my all-time personal fav, but Zakk's picking hand is fucking amazing and he is probably my fav 'living' player right now.

Hmm, if all you care about is the metal that MTV exposes you to and don't care about underground metal then you're welcome to that line of thought.

Umm, I cant stand MTV. Havent watched it since the 80's. Im more suited to VH1..lol. All my point is, Is that Exhorder was never as popular as Pantera, Nothing against Exhorder, But i've never heard them. As im sure alot more people know Pantera but not Exhorder. So whether or not he stole their sound is kinda pointless, Cuz he made extremely popular tunes with Pantera & I have NO idea who or what Exhorder is.

Exhorder were an underground band from NA (where Phil originates from). Phil joined Pantera in 87/88 around the time Exhorder were putting out demos. Basically Phil sounds EXACTLY the same as Kyle Thomas.

I just try and make people aware of what they are listening to if they are or seem to be ignorant to the truth.

See i learned somthing new today! So Exhorder sounded like old Pantera? Kinda heavy glam metal i guess. I got their album Power Metal so i've heard that sound. Is that the sound they stole? or the later years? & also is there any Exhorder albums out? so i can here them.

Exhorder had the Vulgar Display of Power sound.

Their two albums (Slaughter in the Vatican (1990) and The Law (1992)) were re-released on Roadrunner records last year having been OOP for years.

I used to have Power Metal too: it's actually not all that bad, if you like Priest.

Oh and Zakk Wylde does sound remarkably like John Sykes (both use Les Pauls and JCM800s) and Zakk even sites Crying in the Rain as one of his favourite songs. It's not like it's unknown for Zakk to be a clone of another guitarist... all you need to do to see that is to see a picture of Rand... I mean Zakk from just before he joined Ozzy.

I think you continue to lose this argument, no matter how many times you post this same crap in multiple threads. Randy and Eddie Van Valen set the blueprint for all the guitarists of the 80's, and the JCM800/Jackson/Les Paul combination was used by a HUGE amount of guitarists in that era. In reality Rhodes had a big classical influence in his playing, where Zakk is a straight pentatonic scale player. Zakk was ALSO was one of the first guys to really make the Drop D tuning mainstream in the early 90's, along with the Melvins and Soundgarden. To say he doesn't have his own style is ignorant frankly. That No More Tears record was a landmark for heavy music, and (arguably) his best album.

Both are amazing guitarists, but Dime is the first person that comes to mind out of the two.

What I meant by the Randy comment is that IF you've seen a picture of Zakk from 1987 he literally looks like Randy. It's disturbing. I didn't mean that his style is anything like Randy Rhoads' but did say that his sound not style was almost exactly the same as John Sykes' on the 1987 album.

LOL..Yeah he kinda does. Randy with hair down to his ass!! Still on the first read of that post it comes off like you mean style. I know you said Zakk SOUNDS like John Sykes, But that could also mean he playes like the guy. So what you actually meant to say was, Zakk Wylde stole John Sykes sound in 1987!!

Pretty much. The pinch harmonic thing especially.

Discipleof.... Sounds like you got a beef with Zakk. First you try and hit his sound:

This is funny because who cares what they look like. The question was..... Dime or Zakk, who do you think is better.

I agree that John Sykes is a shredder, and I enjoy and still crank, Thin Lizzy and Whitesnake (not so much Blue Murder), but to say what you've been saying just isn't true. Zakk is his own man, and plays his own style of music and puts out different type albums when he feels like it.. Regardless if it's his southern Pride Of Glory, mellower stuff like Book Of Shadows, or in your face music like BLS or Oz.

I am not trying to start an argument here, from your posts it seems like you are knowledgeable in the metal scene, I just don't understand where you're coming from here.

Cheers

Congratulations!

You're the third person to misunderstand my Zakk Wylde clone comment.

I just hate people giving guitarists credit where it isn't really due. Sure, Dime and Zakk could/can play but had Exhorder not given Dime ideas for a sound and John Sykes and Randy Rhoads not given Zakk a sound and image to copy no one would even know their names.

The fact that some people credit musicians who just recycle their influences and pretty much pass it off as originality really bugs me.

And oh yeah: Zakk magically turned into a a Southerner (is that a word?) about ten years back. A beer swilling, Confederate flag waving Red neck from... NEW JERSEY!

:tickled:

To the people who don't get my Zakk Wylde clone point:

'... I pulled out this tape and looked at the photo that came with it of this guy who was standing on his porch with long blonde hair. I just thought 'Fuck me, another Randy Rhoads clone'.

-Ozzy Osbourne

Taken from the No Rest for the Wicked re-issue booklet. Even Zakk's employer is in agreement with me so fuck y'all!

:Smug:
