Zakk Wylde or Dime

To the people who don't get my Zakk Wylde clone point:

'... I pulled out this tape and looked at the photo that came with it of this guy who was standing on his porch with long blonde hair. I just thought 'Fuck me, another Randy Rhoads clone'.

-Ozzy Osbourne

Taken from the No Rest for the Wicked re-issue booklet. Even Zakk's employer is in agreement with me so fuck y'all!

:Smug:

You made your point.... I guess you care more about what guitar players look like than how they play.

Oh, and I didn't realize you had to be from the south to play the kind of music he recorded on Pride & Glory...... I thought you just had to have a love for the music. I take back my comment that you are knowledgeable.

No, you don't have to be from the South to play Southern Blues type stuff but I find a guy from Jersey literally trying to be a Red Neck to be quite laughable to say the least. Sure, if you have a passion for a different culture, by all means, show that you do but I have to mock people who try it because they never carry it off very well.

If you take back your comment about me being knowledgeable then I have to say that you are totally unable to be critical and, therefore, don't deserve to have opinions.

I actually was making my point in the post I made from before the Ozzy quote...

OK DOTP, all right, I jumped the gun on the pulling the knowledgeable part…. Sorry man.

But like I said, I do think John Sykes is a ripper and was listening to him before I even heard Zakk’s name (as Jake’s replacement for Oz), and yes there is some definite influences from R.R. and J.S. in Zakk’s playing, but there are many others he looks up to and that have influenced him as well. Not just 2 guys he happens to look like a little (blonde hair and les pauls). He did what all guitar players do, learn all riffs/chops of their fav players, then take that and mold into your own style, which I think has done very fucking well.

I’ll leave it at that.

But yeah, he sites Stevie Gaines and Al DiMeola as influences too.

Dime over Zakk anyday, apart from pinch harmonics zakk is nothing overly special. Dime on the other hand had his own sound, and will always be the riff-monger general

Vai > Petrucci > Yngwie > Romeo > Dime > Satch > Zakk

Uh oh, You didn't read the posts in this thread very well!! Although i agree with you "Dime hands down". But you said Dime had his own sound & If you had been reading you would have caught that I & Disciplesofthepit have gone over this & According to DOTP Dimebag stole his sound from Exhorder!! Ive still gotta check these guys out, But apparently its the Vulgar Display of Power sound.

Merkaba:

I uploaded two Exhorder songs here:

Legions of Death is from the Slaughter in the Vatican album (1990) and Un-born Again is from The Law album (1992).

If you don't see the Pantera thing then I'm just going to stop posting here.

:)

DOTP, I fully agree that IS Pantera's Guitar sound without a doubt!! I really like Legions of Death!! That tune fucking cranks!!! Not to keen on Un-born again, but then again it may be one i have to hear a couple times!! Thanks for the upload!!

See i learned somthing new today! So Exhorder sounded like old Pantera? Kinda heavy glam metal i guess. I got their album Power Metal so i've heard that sound. Is that the sound they stole? or the later years? & also is there any Exhorder albums out? so i can here them.

really I had there first one( I think it was) I never realized that was him till just now, There version of "into the void" was intense

oh yeah buy the way....DIME I think was better

I didnt think they sounded glam, they came close to sounding death metal but Phils vocals ( if that was him I will buy it again and know for sure)
Kept them a little more toward thrash,

Alright i had to dig out this vinyl of Pantera's Power Metal & according to the order form inside the album, Power Metal was their fourth album. Not sure of the actual release order but this is how there listed on this form.

"Metal Magic"
"Projects in the Jungle"
"I am the Night"
"Power Metal"

Also when i said kinda glam metal. I just meant it didn't have that definitive Pantera sound that was Cowboys from hell & on. They had that early 80's metal sound. I.E. Early Motley Crue , Wasp sound. Maybe its just cuz i got it on vinyl & have never heard it on cd.

No exhorder
tard somethings mixed up and its not my drink

power metal was phils first, But it sounds like "Phil" in exhorder sounding more like the vulgar days or cowboys days

Well ok. I got confused then. You quoted me asking DOTP how exhorder sounded err from what era Pantera stole their sound. I mentioned in that post that i had Power Metal. So when you said "really I had there first one" I thought you meant Pantera's 1st one & then you mention only 2 maybe 3 record's i went through all my vinyl's 'till i found my Pantera Power Metal album to see how many they had. As it turns out it was a waste of time cuz you meant Exhorder. Sorry for the confusion.
