I love my SSD plat 3.5 kits, but zee symbols kinda suck. I was thinking about buying SD2 or some of the EZdrummer packs to use for my cymbals, but that's spending a lot more money just for a small collection of cymbals, and a bunch of drums that I won't ever use.

I just saw this in a Sweetwater add I got today- http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ZPack/

Has anyone heard/used/bought this cymbal sample pack yet? Seems like a pretty good collection of nothing but cymbals, which is what I want. But there is barely any info on this collection, I can't find any sound samples, and the videos on Zildjians website barely go into the sounds, they just interview people.

I'd love to know more about this. I don't want to be a guinea pig though. They might suck :guh:

I hear many people saying the SSD cymbals are shit.

I have to say I agree to an extent. I'm pretty new to them but the forum suggests some additional processing which I'm yet to try.

Isn't it weird though. If the guys sat around making so much time for the drums to sound perfect right away, then why not the cymbals too?

I can personally live with it though. I do have other cymbal samples from BFD and DKFH but I can't be doing with intergrating them all together. They do sound pretty good, just not amazing, but they seem to work just fine in a mix. I'm gonna try a touch of EQ'ing and compression and see what happens.

Because they spot-mic'd every cymbal individually (as in, cingle SDC above, some kind of room mic setup) instead of arrange a normal kit, placing a normal overhead/room + HH/ride spot mic setup like every other sampling company.

The results speak for themselves - I can only hope slate doesn't come in here trying to prove otherwise.

lol, yeah. At least he's changed to a normal setup for SSD Deluxe or whatever it's called now. No idea if this is coming out this year or what, Slate is almost as bad as Blizzard with release dates! [don't take this the wrong way, I love both companies]

If you can get a hold of (or already have) Kontakt 4, I HEAVILY recommend getting Joey's cymbal packs. Short of Evil Drums, they're the best/most original sounding samples out there IMO.

So his packs won't work with Kontakt 3.5?
