    snare flam

I've also had a period messing around with flams and drummers (when listening back) often always "object" to it being first hit on the count because the second hit sounds late-ish. I've had a Music Grad drummer (that now teaches overseas) tell me that it's 'supposed' to be one hit before the...

How to get a huge snare sound in a mix?

Apart from everything mentioned here (especially Ermz's post) If you're working with one or the original snare, I found running a side-chain reverb, pre-fader gets the verb louder without getting your snare being pushed back in the mix, but this does mean you lose control over the snare and verb...

How to clean up Cubase Project files?

If I want to get rid of all the slicing and random audio events (after checking every fade is smooth) I highlight everything with the select tool from the very beginning to the last sound heard. Or just select all (ctrl-a) and set markers (P) (check to see if there's no tail after the last...

    Guitar editing

Haven't been on this forum in a while.. To get back to the main topic, I'm not too sure what artefacts you might be talking about but when I first starting with slip editing I had double hits and wrongly pitched "air" which were from either the attack or decay of the note and to get around that...

    Ear plugs

Not sure if this is applicable to South Africa only, but I just went to an audiologist (who make hearing aids) and asked them to make me some molded plugs. It was around 80-90 USD, but my medical aid payed for it. Ended up only paying for the consulting which was dismal. They're pretty cool...

    HUGE PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

+1 I could be corrected in this bands case, but in my experience most death metal bands enjoy telling other people how fast they are. The faster the tempo the bigger the dicks.

I was thinking of tracking this way, do u?

I used to do this for similar reasons as mentioned above, but I've found (in my experiences at least) some guitarists "respond" differently when there's an organic tone coming from their fingers. They pick certain ways to get a certain sound and when you reamp with another tone/mic/cab/whatever...

    Shoes

I love shoes too...But mainly skate mid top high tops because I ride BMX as a hobby. I have 3 pairs of Vans skink, all 3 different colours and laces to go with different clothes. (yes I'm that gay...but not really) I just like colour coding and things matching. Would love a pair or Supras but...

    Accents

That was pretty good, Couldn't stop laughing at the German one. His SA accent was middle-class Johannesburg style...Not everyone sounds that terrible :P

    Accents

You'd have to be a little specific with that one :P different cities in SA have different accents almost like the difference between New York and Texas accents. Also white South African accents are different to coloured and black accents. Some of which sound terrible in my opinion! Love it...

    Panning dillema

I would Double track the rhythms and the lead. Pan Rhythms hard left and right and pan the lead 80L 80R. Making sure everything is super retarded tight!

Ten Great Bands That Inadvertently Helped Ruin Metal

I said Van Halen after watching that Get Trashed DVD. They mentioned how "Jump", which introduced keyboards, was the one song that destroyed thrash metal :P

As far as Live perfomance goes... what do you think is most important?

If possible, Play 100% during B? otherwise option A. IMO A band plays music, not perform theatre, the performance should always come secondary to your playing. You can't have a performance without the music, but you can have music without a performance. That way you don't have to re-record the...

    Dumbest suggestions by clients

I've just gotten the Usual; Drummer: (after 5 takes) Nah I can't do it... It's probably better for the band if we turn off the click track. @ Executioner213: Jesus man, your stories could be a sitcom. or at least a youtube series!
