Michael Jackson -Bad- cover. Real drums, CLA guitars

Thank you for your response. Yeah, the guitar plugin is very limited. I´ll be reamping properly next time. There's no compression on the mix (maybe 1-2 dB). You mean it's overlimited, perhaps? I'll look into that kick and bass low end. Thanks again :kickass:

When a metal guy compose & mix orchestra stuff...

Sounds great. Maybe some more dynamics (velocity) on the piano and drums, but that's it, IMO. What vsti's are you using for this kind of stuff? Cheers

Michael Jackson -Bad- cover. Real drums, CLA guitars

Hi guys! Back to producing some music again. I recorded and mixed everything as usual. I was toying with the CLA guitars/bass plugins for playback and editing purposes but I ended up liking the guitars and bass. I thought they fit the style. And I was too lazy to set up all the reamping stuff...

YT: Carmina Burana - O fortuna - Cover

Heyy guys, long time no see! I've been busy with work and sport and didn't record anything for a year or so but I've been lurking from time to time. I'm a little rusty now. Check my latest mix. Feedback is appreciated. Cheers

    Effects and Bus Routing?

This. I prefer pre-fader and post-fx sends for some tracks, though. You can figure some other ways to do it in Reaper as it is the most flexible DAW I know at this but I find this setup easier and more visible.

    GClip on Mac? YES!

I guess the clipping mode on Ozone does the trick? I've been using that but I haven't compared it against a dedicated plugin.

    Tuning drum samples

Always tune the samples just by ear when augmenting (but the kick. I don't care about the pitch as I can't hear a difference). Also treat (eq, compress) samples along with the real shells so you don't hear the samples. I currently tune the shells to notes but not to the song. Some people say...

    Decoupling cab from floor.

I always forget to try and decouple it. I tried once and don't remember hearing a difference. But that was ages ago and I'd like to test it again.

    Common vocal recording/mixing mistakes?

Vocalist moving around too much either approaching the mic or facing somewhere else between takes or even in the same take. Room reflections. Pitch and tightness. Compressing too hard on the way in. Compressing too light in the mix. Too bright in the mix. Too dark in the mix. Not ridden...

The Ultimate " Mixing Tips " Thread

Focus on the song as a whole, not the instruments and their sounds when solo'ed. Solo just to check or build a foundation. This is incredibly hard to grasp and easier said than done but sometimes you have to sacrifice certain freqs and tones of your favourite instrument. For example, we all...

Your random annoyance of the day

Drum tracking. 1st day after all checks, I open the template and hit rec. I have only 1 hour left after all the final fine tuning. Take 3: nailed it with no click and no need to edit. Nice! The next day, I open the project and hear some exaggerated boing from the snare in the room track. OK...

Analogue Summing test --> With files!

Downloading to take a listen later on monitors, no internet in my studio. The difference on previous tests I listened to is negligible to me, though. I've always told this to the people who were considering analog summing but man, even admitting they never heard a comparison before, they're...

    Let's talk drum mics

Sn top: i5 Sn res: sm98 Sn side: sm98 Kick: sm7b presence engaged. Toms: sm57 rack, Sennheiser E604 floor. OH: t-bone SC140. Surprisingly good for the money. I got these to mod them later but even M. Joly says the capsule housing is great and the difference when modded is small. Spot...

Bought a house, house/studio remodel and build. Updated regularly!

Congrats on your new place. I just finished installing the air conditioner extraction hose. Bear that in mind before having to drill the walls you're building if it gets as hot as here.

    Bleed on tom tracks

For me, 1-ply heads, hard-hitting on shells/ soft-hitting on cymbals, good tuning to reduce sympathetic snare buzz (use your ears to find a nice pitch, those dials and tuners work to an extent but I only find them useful when replacing heads. The watch tension just takes me back to the ball park...
