I think that it's possible to disolve the wood glue, so you may have to be extra careful on where the neck meets the body. I'm on the same boat, only I don't have a heat gun. I sand the finish dwn when I need some kind of anti-stress :P -

Shop for an online UPS. More expensive, but safer. No real need to buy a really high capacity one, you can deal with smaller battery life by making the UPS hibernate the PC when it reaches critical level. -
