Mixing Bass.... Where to Roll off?!?

Roll off at 40Hz on bass. Also set a low pass at 12Khz. As for kick drum, Hi Pass at 40Hz and Low Pass at 10Khz. This is to get rid of "rumble" from 40Hz and down, and the aliases in high frequencies the instruments don't have that may be boosted during equalization. To get rid of that muddy...

So I finished recording our song..... what do you think!?!?!?!?

Bring up the overheads. Attenuate a little around 240hz on the snare track. In my opinion, I think theres too much distortion on the guitars. Its not a problem, but I just feel they could sound less "solid statey". I think the vocals sound fine.

    Using a 57 for vocals

I've used it before on singing and screaming. If your recording singing, your not going to get a great sound out of it, but you can get the job done for sure. Get the pop filter for it or just get a normal pop filter. If not, use panty hose or a sock. Because of the 5Khz peak in the mics...

    Guitar Mic Technique Question

If you can use 2 mics, than put one 1 inch off the grill (dead center of the cone) and the other either right next to it, or at either 9 inches, 27 inches, or 81 inches back. (3:1 rule). If you can only have one, than i would say 1-3 inches from grill, dead center of the cone.

    Sick Palm Muting Sound!?

Hey guys, I wanted to know if you could help me out here. I am curious on how to get that (Thrice - Artist and the Ambulance) guitar sound. Whenever there is palm muting going on, it sounds like you can hear the speaker moving in and out. I've gotten ahold of Brian Mcternan about the gear used...

Recording with a console and external pre

Im guessing theres a patchbay? If so, go out of the mic source row into the external pre and insert it into the channel path if you want to use the source fader as an extra trim before your DAW. If not, just patch out of the mic source into the external pre and right into the DAW patch row.

    Testing Guitar Tones...

Go with the one that hasn't been equalized. If the guitar is recorded right, you shouldn't really be boosting any frequencies after tracking. Now subtractive equing maybe needed to fit the track into the mix better. The ONLY time i boost eq on a guitar track is around 8Khz, just a couple db for...

Using Waves RBass on a mix?

I actually use this plug-in on demos of own songs. I'll recorded my guitar to a drum track and use it for a bass guitar substitute. It's just a quick way to demo songs without recording the bass guitar, but still have no lack in low frequencies. To be honest, the few people that have hear some...

    d 112 on guitars

57 and 421 is a great combo. They holy grail is a 57, 421, and a royer 121 (IMO). 57 and 421 about an inch off (Side by side) 57 on-axis pointing at where the dust cap meets the surround of the speaker and the 421 right on the right of it. With the 121 you can really experiment with (1-6 inches...

Bohemian Rapsody files and two songs by thrice files.

It seems that the guitars have been processed. I would really like to know how they got that beautiful sounds, by the way. I can hear for sure an MD421 mixed in there. Any thoughts? Also are there any other Sessions from the same Artist and the Ambulance Album?
