From what i hear, Jeff Loomis used a Triple XXX on the Dead Hearts int a Dead World cd. id say go with ENGL if you can afford it. The other guitarist in my band has one, and it has an insane amount of gain and sounds amazing at any volume.

From what i can tell, you can get the same tone out of a XXX that you can from a 6505/5150. you just have 3 channels on the XXX instead of 2 on 6505/5150 or 6506+/5150 II. i love my XXX.
