This band Karnivool is pretty cool! Top-notch Prog!!!

Saw them back in 2010 with Fair to Midland - they put on a great show. A few weeks prior to the show I picked up Sound Awake, but never really got into it aside from the song "Simple Boy". Fast forward to a couple weeks ago and I pulled out that disc again and it hasn't left my car since...

    Arch/Matheos - Guardian live

Took the words right out of my mouth. Parallels was the first FW I ever heard and it's in my top 5. After reading about them I picked up the first three discs and now Guardian is my #1. Funny thing is, I always thought the band should have changed the named after the first three discs of...

To all four of the remaining Freedom Call fans..

Their first three are really enjoyable and they deserve a place on any power metal fan's shelf. I always thought they had a great distinct sound (very recognizable), great vocals, and killer choruses. The 4th and 5th albums were still enjoyable, but a little stale. I haven't gotten around...

A few thoughts after watching the Symphony X / Iced Earth tour kickoff...

I actually enjoyed the smaller system they played on. It's nice listening to music at a more reasonable level than the main house system. And I think they sounded really good too (not bass, drum, booming heavy, but nice and even and clear) BTW - Dante's Inferno....the build-up to the end...

A few thoughts after watching the Symphony X / Iced Earth tour kickoff...

I was meaning to ask the guys at the sound board - are lights like these the bands or the venues? They looked attached to the rigging, but portable, so I figured it's the bands? Why do they think it's a good idea to flash strobes in the eyes of the crowd in a dark place lol?!?!

A few thoughts after watching the Symphony X / Iced Earth tour kickoff...

I was at this show too. Some of my thoughts - Warbringer kicked ass and was a hot opener. Loved the thrash, lots of fun, and I find the opener bands sound great on the smaller sound system they use (not as damn loud and booming as the main house system). Iced Earth was just absolutely...

Blind Guardian to Release "Greatest Hits"

I appreciate the post. Yes, the older albums I was comparing to are the remasters. I like your point about the layering of tracks and the band's goal to have the labums heavier. I'll just leave it at that...

Blind Guardian to Release "Greatest Hits"

Sure am. Like I said, going from the older albums to the newer ones there is a distinct difference in sound. I'm sitting at my comp going from Tales from the Twilight World to the newest album and the new one just lacks the clarity of Tales. Vocals are washed out and the volume of the songs...

Blind Guardian to Release "Greatest Hits"

They don't sound that bad on their own, but they are still muddy. It's when I load up all the BG albums onto my MP3 player and hit random that going from any early albums or even the remasters to the most recent three that it's apparent. There is a huge difference in clarity and sound.

Blind Guardian to Release "Greatest Hits"

I'll no doubt buy this as BG is my favorite band, but 2 discs with 8 songs and I gotta shell out $$$ to get the special edition for a 3rd disc?... ....really? At least the press release says the songs are re-recordings, but this just feels cheap to me. Maybe it's what the band wants...

    New Theocracy November 21st

Awesome! I just finally got around to getting Mirror of Souls and I'm getting into it now... Might hold off on this for a bit to give Mirror some good listens, but here's hoping for a new Xmas song too!

Looking for recommendations: Keyboard laden music...

Awesome, thanks for the replies...got a bunch of stuff to go thru now! I forgot to mention it could be prog oriented, prog rock, or even AOR....really anything with that kind of keys... Liking the Haken (the vocals grew on me thru that 17 min song) and Norlander....

Looking for recommendations: Keyboard laden music...

I'm trying to find some more keyboard heavy music, specifically in the style or type like below: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LXN0HUaH-M&feature=player_detailpage And the keys @ 3:20 in this DT song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61OzwXZiDo8&feature=player_detailpage Not sure how to...

    Arch/Matheos - Symphatetic Resonance...sounds great!! Fates Warning, anyone?? :)

Hands-down my metal album of the year! I got the album with T-shirt and it also came with an extra (duplicate) book signed by Arch and Matheos. This album basically is just a modern day heavier Arch-era FW, and I couldn't ask for anything more! The first three FW albums stand as some of...
