If you could choose one song to some up Opeth...

Can't chose one, it would have to be a song with a great mix of their soft/heavy/progressive/melodic styles. Something like When, The Moor, The Drapery Falls, Deliverance, Ghost of Perdition. One off each of their more important albums there. I think either the Moor or Ghost of...

    Deliverance vs. Ghost Reveries.

Deliverance is weak for an Opeth album. Yeah, it's heavier than Ghost Reveries, but it just totally lacks atmosphere, and I think Ghost Reveries has atmosphere. Don't get me wrong, Deliverance and A Fair Judgement are classic songs, but the rest of the album is lacking as a whole, even if...

    best opeth album

I have all of Opeth's albums, and my order would be something like: Still Life - All tracks and elements are great. Ghost Reveries - Everything is great. Atonement is pretty boring. Damnation - Great album except for the chorus of DWaL and Weakness. My Arms, Your Hearse - Brilliant...

    favorite chord

    I'm a big fan of the weird chords. I have to say though... this is one of the most perfect three chord progressions ever, simple as it is. e 3 0 2 0 b 0 3 3 3 G 0 0 0 0 D 0 0 0 0 A x 3 2 3 E 3 x...

    Your Dream Concert

Basically Opeth, Tool and the Mars Volta playing the same show, along with maybe In Flames, Radiohead or Muse. Hah.

    Pseudo Intellectuals and Opeth

I've loved Tool for longer than Opeth. I didn't like Opeth's sound much at all when I first heard them. The leads were too burried in the mix a lot of the time, and the dissonant stuff just didn't do it for me, along with the death vocals. Needless to say, Opeth are now one of my very...

    Why do you love Opeth?

Simply put; Atmosphere, melody, unpredictablity, contrast between brutality and beauty.

How many of you havent seen Opeth LIVE YET...!!!!

I need to see them so badly. I misssed out when they came (to the UK) recently, because people wouldn't want to go with me, and they were playing quite far away. I might be able to get my girlfriend to come next time.

    Dirge for November = Underrated

It's one of the worse songs on BWP. I personally think, because of it's structure. The begining is cool, with the slightly off-key, emotional vocals. And the clean guitar riff after gave me chills the first few times I heard it. After that point, the song seems to drone for me. The heavy part...

    They should encore with BWP

I rekon Deliverance is a better encore than BWP. Without clean vocals, BWP dosn't quite stand out to me as showing most of Opeth's definitive sound, somehow (As evil as it is). I think Demon of the Fall shows more of their elements better, and is a damn heavy kickass song.

    Can bass player do this.......???

The perfect example of brilliant, amazing bass technicality, while sounding like a muddy pile of crap for 90% of the time. Those pintched harmonic bends were quite nice on bass, and a couple of the segments sounded good. A lot of the runs and shred "licks" just sounded too muddy though. Try...

Confessions of an Opeth Fan...Ghost Reveries and Faceculture interview...

I personally think Ghost Reveries is possibly their 2nd best effort to date. under Still Life, which I think is their very best. The production and energy and having more time to edit songs and get things sounding really good on Ghost Reveries is what makes me like it so much. The riffs arn't...
