$75 now, and you can get Mixing Rock for like $50 I think.

What is this mix missing to be PRO?

Sounds pretty pro to me, snare could be snappier but not mix killing as is.

Blues Rock mix, what do you think?

http://meltedhorses.bandcamp.com/ A friend of mine tracked this live and mixed it on his NS10s.

New DVD "Joe Barresi : Tracking Rock"

To clarify, I was referring to freeze framing the 40 second preview. I blew through my paycheck again so my buying the full-length is delayed. I'm excited though, Barresi is pretty much a badass.

EQ ON RHYTHM GUITARS IN MIXDOWN

A friend of mine got some samples from a 3-named Engineer that does just that. He also had some super verby samples that he pastes in.

New DVD "Joe Barresi : Tracking Rock"

Totally, pausing frame by frame and thinking. Compiling a bit of previous knowledge with what I saw brought me to these conclusions. I'm considering getting a subharmonic synth now, for bussing drums and bass and maybe gtr to, apparently it was all over Raconteurs Consolers of the Lonely and...

New DVD "Joe Barresi : Tracking Rock"

If you know the layout of the SSL desk, you'll notice a subgroup labeled Kosmos, a Peavey subharmonic synthesizer, also Tubetech. If you know how to use a Pause button, the preview gives away a lot of amazing insight; IE the Primacoustic Crashguard on the snare mic, minimizing hat bleed, the...

    Whats your drum pan like?

This is the most realistic sounding, and as for audience perspective, the only member of your audience that actually cares will be a drummer, and he will want to air-drum along. My mother will never tell me a mix of mine sounds weird because the sock cymbal is on the wrong side, but a drummer...

    reverb and delay

One thing I like to do is have a pre-fader send to an aux, then compress vocals, but use the pre-fader send to verb so it explodes when the singer is loud but his dry vocals are consistent in amplitude, giving me control over the level but also a perceived increase in dynamic range of vocal...

    "Metal" bass

I've tried adding the bass last only when I discovered what happened to my whole mix after accidentally muting the bass track...big difference, but it allowed me to decide how much bass to blend in to fill out the now thin track, brought the fader all the way down and unmuted. Brought the fader...

What are some good drum heads to record with??

The heads of your enemies. Try the new Onyx line from Evans.

clipping vocals - any chance to fix this?

It will sound fin, but lie to him and say "That's great, it's gonna be even better after we double or triple it." He'll totally fall for it.

    Depth problem in my mixes

Sounds like you're compressing too much, try some fader rides to make things pop when needed instead of having everything up front and in your face. Just a suggestion, also, are you dithering your final mix? How are your pans set? Try pushing things up and slowwwwly backing them down in...

    Overheads

Roll off low end and check phase with the rest of the kit...toms might be gone if you don't flip your overheads out...depends on the kit, and placement of mics...you can place them to avoid all these problems but there are always limitations. Good thread.

    Bell samples

Brake drums make nice bells and often ring just right for a church bell sound. You can find these in junk yards or on an old car that is no longer in need of them.
