Video tutorial: Mixing drums that slam!

What's really Sad here is all of the complaints. Jordan has worked at crafting his skill's and clearly what he demonstrated in the initial video's generated enough interest in people wanting more of what's on offer. I don't entirely agree with the 5 day deadline either, I personally think he...

Check out 2 of my mixes from 2014!!!

Haven't been on in a while, came across your post and listened. You mix better than me for starters and are working in the scene. I've left the scene and working with my hands in furniture. Overall you kept my attention and it was definitely all in my face....however, what hurt was the drums...

Tuning drums according to the song's key?

Each drum depending on it's wood i.e maple-birch-mahogany- bubinga etc will yield slightly different result's as it's character (the properties of the drum) behave differently i.e more resonance more attack more low end sustain etc. Each drum also has it's own fundamental note (pitch) and if you...

Drum Recording, Selecting Kit and Shells

Hey Michiel, Sounds really positive and good for you that the process is going so well. Between the Pearl Yamaha and Sonor i think you have some good brand kit's to work with and although i could potentially say that i would choose the Yamaha i wouldn't definitely do that until i knew more...

    How is this translating.

Sure thing....expert or not your ears don't lie so appreciate you taking a moment to listen and critique. I personally am not fond of the dbl vocal layer however the key's player and vocalist requested it so i left it in. I'll see if anyone else chips in with some feedback and if time allowes...

Client refuses to pay, what would you do?

Just Let It Go.....seems to me you have learn't a very valuable lesson here ,and one I'm sure you will put measure's into place to avoid in the future. You have received a number of ideas from other members ....you decide which one's appeal to you most and whatever you do, don't go giving away...

Making my own drum samples sound more realistic

Definately use the room mic's...it's what helps define the kit's size at the end of the day.

Making my own drum samples sound more realistic

You've done a descent job with the programming but it's most likely the overal sound of the sample's your using. Why not try bouncing the midi to audio and add some further wight to the drum sound by using acoustic drum sample's. Lasse has some awesome sample's as does slate and ofcourse there...

Well since it's drum video day...

Good Vid , really enjoyed his feel and great sounds overall. Interesting point you make about the headphones/kinda felt that it almost put him out of the zone he was in for that brief moment.Nothing worse than having that distraction in a recording session...at least for me anyway.
