Creative and unique metal / alternative

Gojira are pretty good, but hardly unique. It's so easy to point out their most major influences. Demilich Wormed Ulcerate Theory in Practice Lykathea Aflame Infested Blood Ephel Duath Melechesh

    Industrial Doom

Haha, Justin Broadrick and Aaron Turner's new project, Greymachine, seems to fit this description. Amazing stuff.

where are all the david bowie fans?

He truly is - a musical chameleon. Hunky Dory has to be my favourite, and maybe then Station to Station.

New Black Dahlia Murder album coming out!!

While I don't love this band, they're pretty good. They've progressed from a seemingly regular deathcore band, to pretty much a death metal band, and I've always loved Trevor's vocals.

    Sludge metal. It's good;

Fuck yes, The Great Cessation was one of the best albums this year. Also, Cavity Boris Giant Squid (avantgarde sludge, their new one was great) Kongh (kinda on the death/doom side at times, but def sludgy)

Lol, what's with all the Chthonic love on this forum? Band is terrible.

    Bands that sound like tool?

Meshuggah has a lot of Tool-like moments, considering both bands are into one another's music. If you're looking for similar vocals, then they're not that similar, but musically, stuff like "Combustion" is VERY Tool-influenced.

    The concerts thread

I was so pissed when I found out my first Converge show would be in a bigass venue, with Dethklok. Anyway, I saw Torche and Harvey Milk live recently, and it was a-mazing.

    2009 Releases

The new Thrice is terrible, and this is coming from someone who loves them. For me Vheissu was the pinnacle, but literally nothing happens on Beggars.

    Post-metal bands?

Lol, not many bands in general have been able to top those albums. I'm really digging Pelican now, I suggest downloading Australasia and the self-titled EP. I talked to one of the guitarists when I saw them with Isis, and he said they should be releasing a new full-length some time in the...

    Essential Stoner Metal?

So so good, my favourite from them. It's just so fucking catchy, and really heavy at the same time.
