I just read this in the August 2003 issue of Guitar World.

Whiplash - 10 Essential Thrash Records

1 Metallica/Master Of Puppetts
2 Slayer/Reign In Blood
3 Megadeth/Rust In Peace
4 Exodus/Bonded In Blood
5 Metallica/Kill 'Em All
6 ANTHRAX/AMONG THE LIVING
7 Testament/The New Order
8 Overkill/The Years Of Decay
9 Possessed/Seven Churches
10 Pantera/Cowboys From Hell

Well, I own all of them except Possessed.

i have all except Testament, Overkill and Possessed.

my personal Thrash Top Ten:

1) Anthrax "Among The Living"
1) S.O.D. "Speak English Or Die"
2) Tourniquet "Psycho Surgery"
3) Slayer "Reign In Blood"
4) Exodus "Fabulous Disaster"
5) Nuclear Assault "Survive"
6) Agent Steel "Skeptics Apocalypse"
7) D.R.I. "Thrashzone"
8) Metallica "Kill 'Em All"
9) Hades "Exist To Resist"
10) Whiplash "Insult To Injury"

I'll give you ten bands with my fav albums from them, cause if it had to be 10 essential albums, the list would include only like 4 bands.
1.Testament: "The Legacy", "The Gathering", "The New Order", "Practice What You Preach"
2.Anthrax: "Fistful Of Metal", "Among The Living"
3.Metallica: first four
4.Slayer: "Raining Blood", "Hell Awaits", "Seasons In The Abyss"
5.Megadeth: "Killing Is My Business...", "R.I.P."
6.Exodus- first three
7.Forbidden: "Forbidden Evil"
8.Death Angel: "The Ultraviolence"
9.Heathen: "Breaking The Silence"
10.Kreator:"Extreme Aggression", "Pleasure To Kill", "Violent Revolution", "Coma Of Souls"

"For Whose Advantage" by Xentrix is better than half those albums (they were a UK band and they fuckin rocked!).
Sacred Reichs "The American Way" is also better than some of them.

My top 10 would be:

slayer-reign in blood
Metallica-master of puppets
exodus-bonded by blood
death angel-the ultra violence
violence-eternal nightmare
testament-the legacy
anthrax-among the living
megadeth-peace sells
overkill-years of decay
kreator-coma of souls

What I can remember about X, is that they sucked big time, wannabe Metallica's. What about those other crappy UK bands, Acid Reign and Slammer!!
Youre right about SR, killer album!!

I had a copy of a Xentix album on tape, I always quite liked it, dunno what album it was though.
Sepultura: Schitzophrenia was on the other side.
Ah reminisences!!

Who the fuck were Slammer? never heard of 'em

Nice to see you remember Xentrix even if you didn't like them! Yeah, they were Metallica wannabes but their For Whose Advantage album was really excellent - very much in the style of And Justice For All which is no bad thing!!! Download Questions or Black Embrace if you can for a taste of great old-skool thrash!

I saw this list about 10 years ago in Guitar World. It was on a Heavy Metal Special Edition. It had interviews with Metallica, Pantera, Sepultura, Clash of the Titans (Slayer, Megadeth, and ANTHRAX). I still have that issue! :headbang:
