I saw this thread over at the TDPRI.com forums - it's a Telecaster Forum.

Long story short - this guy was fascinated at a very young age with the shape of an 807 tube. His fascination eventually resulted in him building several amps, but he always wanted to build one with 20 tubes - for some reason he thought 20 would look so cool all lit up.

Fast forward a bunch of years and now he has embarked on creating his monster or as he calls it "The Beast".

Here is his site: Champ Electronics

You can read his story here:

I suppose bedroom volume is out of the question? :)

tl;dr articles, not very fascinated by this myself. Is there actually any point in building this monstrosity, or is he just doing it because it was a childhood dream? Not sure how it would sound, just really loud with a lot of headroom? And would it work with a regular 4x12 guitar cabinet?

All good questions - while that type of wattage is pretty standard stuff in Bass amps so finding a cab should not be too much of an issue. I think he is just building it to do it - he seems to be in the amp repair business so he probably is just fascinated with the whole design/creation aspect of it.

No, it will only work with 20 4x12" Guitar cabs =D

That tobacco tin makes him a considerably more awesome person.

But god damn... One horsepower is something like 774 watts... a 1.3 horsepower guitar amp? Holy fuckballs!
