So I'm planning to buy an UAD 2 solo flexi.
From what I understand, the 1176 SE is included in the pre-installed plugin pack.
The voucher is 500$ worth.
I want the SSL buss comp and the DBX160. I want them bad.
What should I buy with remaining 150$?
I don't give a shit about the eq's, reverbs and fancy shits. I am a compressor freak.
So I was wondering if the 1176 LN is really better than the 1176 SE or if I should go for the LA2A instead.

I would go for both both if I haaaad to make a choice id probably go for the 1176. Forget the SSL Comp, most overrated bus comp ever ;)
So, the LN is that much better than the SE?
About the SSL comp, I don't care if it's overrated. It has "that snap" I'm after.

Yes, the LN sounds way better than the SE..... It sounds more 'analog', more real.. The SE is great because you can run like 50 of em, but I'd rather run 4 instances of the LN and have it sound great.

I'm an 1176 nut and I have to say I'd be striving for as close to that real sound as possible.

And I don't really think the SSL bus comp is overrated, I've only heard one Neve bus comp that did what it does as well (and shits all over the Alan Smart comp to boot)

Also throwing this out there, I've used the real 1176 and the Purple Audio 1176 clones and I recommend the purples to anyone trying to save a buck. They are great.

I use the LA-2A all the time on vocals.. Definately recommend it!!
Also great on bass I hear, but havent tried that yet..

I dont have the 1176LN yet, but I use the SE version all the time..

You might wanna look into the LA-3A as well.. Its not as "smeared" as the LA-2A..

UAD runs promos and gives out vouchers all the time. Each month its something new.
I got the LA-3A for 25USD a few months back!!

They're pretty different units, provided the plug-ins are modeling them accurately. The 1176 is an FET unit with really fast attack and release times, and an aggressive character that's great for fucking your shit up (in a good way). When you want to get slammy on stuff like bass, drums etc. it's the unit to use.

The LA-2A is more about the gentle, slow release and in a way 'natural' compression. It's a tube/opto unit so it's not exactly transparent, but it can round out acoustic elements and is very favored on vocal tracks.

That's because it was designed for broadcast. It's the last thing in the chain before the signal hits the transmission tower. If the dynamic range of those signals gets too high, the radio stations violate regulations and get fined. So the 1176 is put on last to brickwall the shit out of everything.

Nah but I've used the stereo version, the 1178. One of the VUs was broken so I avoided using both channels. Let me know if you try out one of those Gyrafs.

Yeah download the demo versions of the plugins.
1176 is my working horse, does good on everything from drums to vocals,
though the LA-2 is the master of vocal applications.

If you head over to their webiste they have a few examples on everyplugin that shows its own characteristics.

Dont want to bash down on the SSL Comp, but i just think there are better master bus comps.
that dont do strange thins with your stereo image, and puts a lowpass filter on your mix ;)

Cheers

do you have to buy them right away?
They do time limited demos don't they?

Yes.. Limited to 14 days..

However, there has been problems with people loosing demo time so if you send an email where you pretend to have a problem and ask politely you can get a "Demo Reset" file.
This resets all the demos and you have 14 days again. :)

And in case you werent aware, you can activate the demo on each plugin individually so you dont have to test all of them at once.

i looooove the 1176 on drums, bass , and vocals.
I use the LA2A set to limit on clean guitar and more rock guitar for a sort of CLA vibe.
nice on female vocals too
