2008 Metal Song Of The Year

I think the only 2008 albums I have are the latest AA and the latest Firewind (if that was even 08) because most of the CDs I buy are me catching up on classics.
Based on that it'd be Amon Amarth - Varyags Of Miklagaard. Obviously I haven't heard everything but I think that'd be tough to beat regardless.

Firewind definitely sounds way better live than the sterile studio sound "The Premonition" had.

To be honest I really did just pick a random track from it, since they're all so good.

Truth. Great album from start to finish, but The House isn't the best song on there.

Fair enough. Pagan Daze is my favourite, followed by I Love The Lamp.

I would probably pick either of those two as my favorite, as well. You Will Obey is also pretty damn good. "Let's get masonic, baby!". What a sweet line.

Anyway, I think we're going to need something off Sincerest Misery to be nominated for song of the year. It's just such a thoroughly astonishing album that I can't pick a favorite track. Last Tears, maybe.

I haven't heard anything from the new Opeth album. When I listen to them I usually enjoy it, but it's never moved me enough to actually buy a record. I'll have to give the new record a listen, especially that song if it's really that good.

I'm listening to it right now. This song is epic.

EDIT: That was great. Is the entire record that good?

If you like The Lotus Eater much you'll probably like the rest of the album too. I like it but overall Watershed gets a little too technical for my tastes when it comes to Opeth, songs like Bleak are my favorites.

Picking a single song is not easy, but these are all great:

Opeth - "Heir Apparent"
Meshuggah - "Bleed"
Gojira - "The Way of all Flesh"
Decrepit Birth - "Reflection of Emotions"

The last one is good. And the first.

Same here. That song shows that he's just another doom metal singer that can't sing. It's not so striking in the heavier songs, but they shouldn't really play these ballady ones.

Now when I'm listening to it, Seamount's Tears of a Giant is a perfect example how to do it - how to implement a slow ballady song into a doom metal album. It's slow but graduating, emotionally sounding and not cheesy at all.

Awesome song/album.
