6 and 7 string guage question

Genius Gone Insane, you're wrong. A .49 gauge string tuned to E on a 6 string is going to have the exact same amount of tension on it as a .49 gauge string tuned to E on a 7 string. If it didn't, then it wouldn't be tuned to E. Since we are talking about 2 guitars with the same scale length and using the same gauge of string, the tension HAS to be the same as that is the only other variable that affects the frequency that the string rings out at.

The neck will have more tension on it yeah, but the string is going to have the exact same amount of tension on it regardless, if it didn't then they wouldn't be tuned to the same note and the comparison would be totally invalid.

thanks alot jbroll. Maybe i'll go with 13-17-26 like I already have for the lighter strings. I don't think i'd like to go any lighter with those strings. The lowest three I will go with what you said. Thanks again.

dammit. On juststrings.com they don't offer 64's in bulk. It jumps from 60 to 68. They offer all of the others though. That sucks i'd have to pay almost double the price if I wanted to buy 12 64 gauge strings from the singles. Anyone know of any other sites that sell guitar strings in bulk that would offer 64's? Otherwise I may have to go with 68's. How much of a difference is there from 64-68? I fear it may not fit thru my body of my guitar(my guitar is string-thru).

If you're playing a Schecter in B standard, I think even .064 would be on the heavy side unless you like fairly high string tension - I don't think I ever went above .062 on my SGs. I'm guessing .068 would feel pretty stiff; not sure if that's enough of a difference to affect your neck.

As for fitting the heavy strings onto the guitar, I know I did have to ask Sperzel to enlarge the holes on my low B tuning pegs (they did it for free, and earned my lifelong loyalty).

Yes indeed, please reread my earlier post in it's entirety and you'll see that I had awakened to the truth earlier in the thread.

THanks Morgan. I just restrung my guitar today with a 62 and I am happy with that. I don't think I will go any heavier. My had to sand my nut to enlarge the groove to make it fit(actually I had to do this when I moved to 56 a while back). The pieces in the bridge where the strings rest on(saddle is it) need to be replaced with larger ones. My low b string doesn't fit in the little groove. It just goes over the whole thing. I'm thinking about replacing the whole bridge as well as my tuners and nut. What would you recommend? I have a fixed tonepro bridge with grover tuners. What would be best for B standard tuning. Right now my guitar goes out of tune so easily i'm assuming because of the reasons I stated above. Sorry for deviating from the topic.
