I'm a music teacher, so today I decided we were going to learn about respecting each other's musical tastes. So they had to endure the full length of "The Moor" :).
Surprisingly, many of them thought it was pretty cool, though most of them didn't understand why the vocalist was growling. They did not see the point.
I explained it is another form of art, and that I didn't understand why rappers had to talk. Heh.
It was funny to watch their faces while they listened, it was priceless.

METAL FOREVER.

I also made my AP English IV class listen to The Moor in its entirety. Needless to say I got a lot of "turn that off" and "that's evil" comments. The more they commented the more I laughed and turned up the volume.

My elementary music teacher never even played rock music. She acted like it never existed. She would always go on and on about these classical composers, who I liked, but she never once, ever, mentioned any other form of music.

I did have a substitute way back in 8th grade that took over after our first got suspended. She played No Leaf Clover by Metalica and loads of Led Zeppelin, Beatles, and 70's/80's pop. It was actually a lot better than it sounds.

I actually wouldn't have done shared The Moor with my students had I been in your position, because I'd have been afraid of the reaction. Of course, I live in America, where even opinions seem Satanic these days.

Way cool. I commend you.

And about that growling matters one of the best explanations you can give is to explain how it's one of the most extreme thing you can do with your voice. Voice is still just a sound, like guitar, so it can be changed to describe the emotions more.

Hehehe, I got my popularity boosted quite a lot in the class during the very first music lesson when I said "Are you ready for a year without Mozart and Beethoven??" and everyone screamed "Yeah!" And then we played 'Smoke on the Water' and had a good time :)

I do love Mozart, Beethoven and very many other classical composers though. I just don't believe the kids are at the right age for this stuff now. When they grow older, they will find some interest in classical music anyway.

Oh and good thing your students don't see your avatar, you could really get in trouble, specially when converting students to something more serious than opeth  :loco:

Hehe they laughed and one of them said, "Do the other teachers know that you're this evil?" or something :) Today some of them have bugged me to growl some more, so I invited them to our next band practice. Hehe. They'll probably get tired of being there, as the music is pretty extreme (a mixture of Morbid Angel, Immortal, Zyklon and Slayer). Ah. Life is good.

First ~ I wish I had you as a music teacher when I was 14.

Second ~ I hope you will not be accused for being a Satan worshipper and get fired. ;)

HAHAHAHA

Can you imagine us in an old people's home? Like the old people now listen to jazz and things, the music that was popular in the 40s... We'd be listening to metal in our 80s
