6505 vs Cobra

So the fun continues...

Same cab (vht fatbottom), same mic(audix i5), exactly same mic position, same volume, and i've tried to get simmilar sound out of the amps, although the cobra came out brighter which i had to adjust later on with a hi-shelf

Minor eq cut's here and there..

As most have guessed correctly.


Now, JeffTD put me in the right direction, pointing out the tones were supper honky...

Both sound super weird and honky, like a cocked wah or someone ran the amp through a dimarzio pickup.

I like how you lowered the high end with a high shelf - great use of EQ there.

Based off the sound of the amps, the A is the Cobra and B is the 5150. Based off the hiss at the end, though... A sounds like a 5150's hiss, and B sounds like a Cobra's hum.

Well, the VHT Cab is voiced this way, i've tried like 20 mic positions and can't get get rid of the slight honk, the mids on the amps were super low too.

Anywho, enlighten me why a hi-shelf with negative gain is wrong ?

It's not, it's just funny reading it like that. I'd probably go for an lpf + strategic cuts/boosts, but yeah.

That said, I dig the cobra over the 6505.

Yeah, but End of Heartache was 2 tracks of a Cobra/Dragon (depending on the song) into a VHT cab and it's a benchmark as far as guitar tones go.
