6505 weird noise!!...

well i noticed this when i got the amp back home last friday (havent had chance to play it again till today)

and every time i play a passage and stop playing and put the vol knob on the guitar to 0 i get this windy/rustling noise, followed by a quietish pop/click.

this noise can last anywhere from under 1 second to 10seconds.

just wondering if anyone else has had such an issue? ive changed guitars, removed my sd1 from the chain tried a different house/socket but no avail. the problem, however, seems to be very tempromental.

im taking it back to the store tomorrow to see what can be done, its a minor issue, but its a pain in the ass!!

*UPDATE*

well guys, i took the amp to the store, and when i was playing it wasnt doing what i said it was doing, typical....

HOWEVER


all of a sudden it just crapped out and the whole sound dyed/faded away so it did more than i wanted to show the guys in the store!! so ive swapped the amp with a shop model (mine was 07 this one is 09) and all seems fine so far, cheers for all your help!!!

Yeah, that is weird. The 5150 I had at one time would make a strange tweeting noise. Like a little bird or something. When I took it in, no one could figure out why.

i mainly get it after a hard session of palm muting and riffing. hmm well i guess ill take it to the store anyway, just to see if an others there do the same, if so i guess its a general amp issue

Hmm, well the 5150 is noisy in the omnipresent "kssssshhhhh" sense, but windy/rustling noises and a pop/click are a bit beyond the norm IMO; actually, I remember my old 5150 combo was making similar noises for awhile, and I couldn't figure out why - until I realized that one of the power tubes had fallen out (HAET top-mounted chassis ), so it had only been running on one 6L6, for god knows how long So it could be a power tube issue dude, amp problems almost always are!

Changing power tubes solved the issue for me

yeah, sounds like a tube issue to me. if a power tube swap doesn't solve it, you could troubleshoot the preamp tubes, but IMO they would be less prone to failure, unless they were microphonic (which would be a more high pitched squeal).

Mine has done things as far as weird ssssSSSHHHHHHHsssss sounds where it fades in and out, as well as like aREEEEEEE sounds. The other day it had like no gain anymore when i played below 3... so yeah, i'm gonna look at getting all new tubes soon. I'm assuming that's the problem.

thing is, its brand new, never been used straight outta the box so hence the concern!! ill try another out in the shop as ill be damned for paying for tubes when the thing is only a week onld and played on twice!!! i know they are just ruby tubes, but i havent the cash to splash out on a whole new power tube section!!

Sometimes it happens dude, you're not the first person to buy a brand new 6505 and have it crap out! (waiting for 16S to chime in ) And I've also heard of people getting other brand new amps with dodgy tubes too; it happens, I guess! (though you should totally be able to get a new quad under warranty)

Yup, it actually does sound like a tube issue this time, although I'm always on the list of 5150 owners to shout about cleaning up the fx loop jacks and tube pin sockets with contact cleaner...which I would do anyway (you knew I couldn't NOT say it...) regardless of age/playing time.
Tube manufacturing quality is, uh, let's just say it's not as quality controlled as it ought to be, and leave it at that...
Marcus is right, should be a new quad of 6L6's in it for you, under warranty.

Mine does this every once in a while too. But, it usually only happens after i've been playing a while, put it on standby, and take it off standby again and it will make some swooshes for up to maybe 5 seconds then it's fine. I usually just chalked it up to shitty ac power.

hha wey thats how i got the original one new for 700!! as it was in storage for a cpl of years!!

granted the new one i have has been used in the shop a cpl of times, but other than that, its actually cosmetically better than the other model i got! so all seems to have worked out for the best!! now i just need to get rid of this damn hard wired power lead and replace it with a C14 IEC connector so i can use a kettle lead like every other amp!!
