I'm not trying to be 'elite or underground' when I say the original is better. It's just that the original, in my opinion, is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better. Basically they took what was an original, interesting and frightening film, which used sound and lighting in a brilliant way and didn't resort to cliche or faux 'disturbing' special effects once, and added a blonde girl with big tits, some cheesy horror cliches, some 'disturbing' special effects and dumbed the whole thing down tenfold. The tension and atmosphere are non existent in the remake. and the fact that they KEEP showing little clips of the video ALL THE TIME as if we don't have any kind of memory or the ability to reach conclusions ourselves is really really annoying. The originals video was frightening, because it didn't feature what was basically shots from the film in black and white with a few crap bits and loads of shots of a ladder. Just watch the damn original :flame:

I DID watch the damn original and its fucking BOOORING... ist so typical japanese, sometimes you see the actors just sit and stare on a very strange way... huh? What's the point?? Whats the point about that stupid mindreading stuff?? By example, the scene on the boat, put the new one and the old one next to each other... you'lle see the new one is far more better, who'se stomach didnt turn when the horse jumped of the ship...?? There isnt any moment like this in the original movie, where just nothing happend except for mummeling japanese peeps. And the blonde in the remake doenst have big tits btw.

bigger than the japanese girl. lol :D

Each to his own but I wholeheartedly disagree with you and I don't even see your point.

I much prefer the evil sadako, who was born to a psyhic mother and bastard exploting doctor, to the adopted samara who bumps off a few horse. we're meant to feel sorry for or something. I guess some people just can't read subtext :)
and what the HELL was that scene in the remake where she got pushed down the well by the tv, is was the most lame thing ever and made by good friend Macabre_Transmigrant laugh his fucking ass off when we watched it the other day. He's like the biggest fan of the original ever and he needs to be here taking the piss out of all you remake fans :D
edit - the point of the mindreading bit was so ryuji could grab the guys arm and see the flashback at the doctors convention, but it comes into its own in the sequel when the boy (who is infinitely more scary in the original) starts killing people with his mind in the style of sadako - after inheriting his powers from his PSYCHIC father ryuji. so nerr.

Hmm... I'm trying to understand your point, but I still cant agree with you... I can read subtexts very well, and I didnt notice that "we're supposed to feel sorry for the poor adopted Samara"...??? (Except for the bumping TV, that was so damn stupid, right.)

It must be because I saw the remake before the origional.. I already knew what happened in all the parts that were supposed to be scary and the overall plot is the same so it wasn't like anything new besides some things like the mind reading.. just my opinion though.

The creepiest bit in that movie is at the start when that schoolgirl dies, and her friend has a flashback to when she found her body in the closet. Holy crap, does that dead girl's face look scary. Freaked me out :)

In the remake you see 'samara' in an unscary fashion with a normal face, plus all the hospital stuff, her in the institution and stuff. although she's still scary, she's too human and just not black hearted and evil enough, compared to the first.

and yeah the bumping tv bit was godawful, what were they thinking

Couldn't help being rather "scared" by it too, expecially that moment in the beginning, where she says "I saw her face" and BANG you see the horrified face of the girl in the closet, gave me shivers down my spine! Good movie... however good the original is and there's some nice babes :).
