85 in bridge?

well they both can't really solo that well lol, jeff was always the better guitar player in slayer imo, but kerry kicks hamsters ass at rhythm playing

wow.. i really stirred it up eh?

btw, diskonnect... no flab in my palm muting, thank you very much. furthermore, trying to come to a conclusion via direct comparisons while using the extremely subjective opinions about sounds on very disparate (different) records is futile.. waaaay too many other factors are involved in making a sound on a CD.

Because Zakk Wylde and Kerry King made the 81/85 set popular, Zakk Wylde being a bit more influencial.

Also, it's fairly common to have a hot, tight, crunchy bridge pickup paired with a thicker, more PAF like neck pickup.

here ya go mendel

Hey man...just thought I would throw this out there. I have an 85 in mint condition for sale. It includes the pickup itself, and the quick connect lead. I'm asking $55 shipped anywhere in the US. Email me at jrapisardi@ad-forge.com if you want it!

Definitely true, but that's almost all I have to go on. That and the fact that I did some direct A/B comparisons between the two using the same guitar and recording setup. Unfortunately, the recording setup at the time was a PodXT recorded direct. :p Oops. However, next time I have to change strings or batteries, I think I'll give the 85 a shot through my 5150 to see how it works. I could be changing my tune after that.

About the Pod, though, all my patches and settings seemed to sound exactly the same with an 85 in the bridge (a very Shadows Fall sort of tone), while the 81 allowed for a lot more tonal variation. But that could be a shortcoming of the Pod rather than the pickups.

Bottom line: yeah, you're right, and I stand corrected. But as of now, I still prefer the 81, so HA! :D

Here's some clips I did a while back:

The guitar is an ESP LTD MH 400 NT. Mahogany with Maple top, set neck. The same strings were used, the clips were recorded minutes apart. The EMG quick connect system rules!

These were recorded direct over USB through my POD XT Live using the Criminal model setting I made in this Zip:

thats quite a difference

I've had enough cash to buy an 85 for a while now, but I wasn't sure it was for me. After hearing those clips, my mind is made up. I will DEFINITELY be replacing the 81 in my main guitar with an 85, the difference was incredible. Thanks Kazrog! :D
