Born of Osiris - The New Reign
Winds of Plague - Decimate the Weak

Stellar stuff. Let me help if you're having trouble getting your hands on 'em,

Cheers.

Winds of Plague have an interesting classification: "Symphonic Deathcore/Blackened Death Metal"

here I always thought deathcore was a softened/diluted/whitened death metal...

Good music is good music regardless of genre. If you're one of those people who can't stand anything to do with 'core, then stay away. If you're open minded, definitely give these guys a listen because they're very talented musicians and song writers.

I'd describe Born of Osiris as Prog Deathcore, and Winds of Plague as Symphonic Deathcore. Both have heavy use of keyboards.

I've seen both bands play live(it was at the same show). Winds of Plague put on a pretty good show. Born of Osiris was just alright(not bad).

My opinion of these bands (and others like them) is that when their metal influences are showing through the strongest is when their music is the strongest, when their core influences are showing through the strongest is when their music is the weakest.

And I don't make that statement as someone who just hates Hardcore. I like Hardcore. I also like metal. I'm not adverse to the concept of combining the two. I just don't think it is being done very well by all these ____core bands all over the place these days. At best they play solid(if fairly standard) metal that is marred by occasional injections of core. At worst they play shitty Metal mixed with shitty Hardcore.

Tell me how different these bands are from Beneath the Massacre, if possible.

If you mean you dislike BTM, there are pretty much a fucking ton of deathcore/whatever bands who are not mechanical, cold, and emotionless like them...

I didn't really like Winds of Plague btw.

I tend to avoid people like that.

and deathcore is a shitty genre for girl pants wearing fashion victims. hardcore/crust & grind > deathcore

People just get tired of you pointing out your passion for hardcore/grindcore/crust or whatever when we're clearly NOT talking about it in the given discussion.

You have good taste, by the way, I'm just saying...

Anyways, I didn't like either band much, to be honest. Winds of Plague was a little better than Born of Osiris, though.

deathcore is still core music, regardless if I'm pointing it out or not. I'm just trying to steer people away from trendy crap thats going to go the way of the wild buffalo in five or so years.

There's a VAST difference between current hardcore and the hardcore you like. Deathcore is influenced by current hardcore so it's a whole different thing we're talking about.

Also, you would do well to listen to the bands based on the music, not the trend.

I prefer the more melodic side of metalcore but some deathcore bands are alright.

actually, modern hardcore is heavily influenced by 80s NYC mosh. But you should know that already. I just don't like deathcore, not that its talentless, its just been done so many times by inferior bands that its lost its effect. I don't like most modern goregrind for the same reason. Stupid scene kids making myspace blipgrind bands. its not creative at all.

Modern goregrind (actually most modern "grind" in general) is pretty crappy. I can agree with that. Some deathcore is cool but I'm not into the whole All Shall Perish or Despised Icon vein.
