a few pictures from the studio

Ah, that was my first guess, for the control surface, but I wasn't sure. I've only ever used/seen in person the Control|24 and the ICON control surfaces. I like the Mackie Control Universal still though :). Ugh, I can't believe you are using those Genelec moni's...I hated them at the old studio. I preferred the 1031's and Mackie 824's over those little Gens. But I guess if they work for you... Cool studio.

i like the genelec monitors. but when i mix i use my old AKG K240 anniversary headphones. i purchased the genelec 7050B subwoofer as well.

How are you liking the Onyx pres? I forgot to ask in the first place, lol. I'm really interested in getting my boss to add an 800R to our arsenal, I hear they are really great pres but haven't had the chance to work with them personally. Thoughts?

i haven´t had used them yet. just upgraded the studio with more inputs and preamps. but until next week.... :)

Yeah I keep reading mixed reviews.....Some are great, some are bad.....as long as your happy with them...

Unfortunately, some guys listen with their wallets. Even bargain-bin stuff from Berhinger is a massive improvement over the low end stuff from 15 years ago.
I've got a Mackie 1202 with 4 XDR pre's, and frankly, there's absolutely nothing wrong with them. They're miles above the pre's in my first utility mixer, an Alesis studio 12R. If Mackie has improved upon the design with the ONYX, it can only be a good thing. When reading reviews, consider the source.

That being said, I'm not going to throw out my Mp2NV, Vintech, or Ward Beck preamps any time soon.

yeah no problem! i´ll post some pix later ok? that room is awsome!! belive me. every bit of the room has its purpose. .

I understand the philosophy. I built my own studio 3 years ago based around a Sayers RFZ design. It took about a year: 6 months of planning & revisions, & 6 months to construct. Hemholtz resonators rule.

The Sound On Sound review actually points out technical flaws with the Onyx pre's. Opinion is pretty much null and void when it comes to that sort of stuff.

Haha! Funny you ask.... I actually have (HAD) the magazine, but I just realized something - I FUCKING THREW IT AWAY ON ACCIDENT!

I have a magazine rack in my office (the toilet) where I do most of my reading. Remix magazine, which I despise, keeps sending me free issues that end up in my magazine rack. When the rack gets full I sort through the mags and make two piles - keep and ditch. Well, while searching for this specific Sound On Sound issue, I come across a pile of Remix magazines in my storage area (where I archive all of my mags), leading me to believe that I shitcanned the wrong pile! I'm a very anal-retentive person, with a not-so-slight case of OCD on top of it. So you can imagine that I'm very upset at myself right now.

You can buy recent articles from them on their website if you don't want to wait for it to be published on the net.

Yeah, they can have mine when they pry it from my cold, dead hands. This is my absolute favorite piece of gear. About 90% of my tracks go thru it, and they play together REAL nice.

Maybe the "National Recording Association" or something like that. I'm not a gun person, nor have I ever even fired one. Most of my friends & family do own firearms, but it's not really my thing. Besides, I keep a 5 foot broadsword over my mantlepiece.

Side note: If you've seen "Bowling for Columbine" you'll learn that Canadians have just as many guns as Americans. And, outside of Toronto, the gun crime rate is staggeringly low. What's really hilarious is the gun shop in the film is just down the street from one of our city's major music stores. It was one of those "holy shit, I drive by there all the time!" moments.
