Talk about a Cinderella story. This is a tale of a Filipino who went from being homeless at one point in his life to becoming the new frontman of one of America's greatest rock bands.

On a side note, Journey's latest album Revelation was produced by none other than Kevin Shirley.

I'm glad you like the story, Aja.

BTW, I just went to Wal-Mart, expecting to pay over $20 for Revelation (since it's a 2-disc + DVD set). You're not gonna believe this, but the album is going for $11.88! So I bought a second copy for my dad.

A Journey concert would be the kind of concert to go with a chick I think. I'd feel a little gay going with a dude. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I would think you're sure to get laid after a few bars of Touching and Squeezing.

Arnel kicks ass

get the new cd Revelation
it has 1 cd of new material
1 of redone classics
1 live dvd performance shot here in vegas

Neal found him on youtube, great material for a movie.

Here's a song by Arnel's old band The Zoo (yes, it's a depressing break-up song, but this is to give you an idea of what he sounds like outside Journey).

Arnel is real good but not amazing. If you listen to Steve Perry after you hear Arnel, you will hear how much better Steve is.

But have you guys heard Journey before Steve Perry? My god! The first Journey album is so fuckin mind blowing! Total rockn fusion! Superb musicianship! Nto poppy at all! All of you must hear the first Journey album when they were a spin off of Santana. Incredible!

Steve Perry came on the 4th album, which is pretty good.

Of course Steve Perry is better. Unfortunately, we won't be seeing him back with Journey anytime soon due to the circumstances that started with his hip injury. What Neal Schon wanted was someone who could come close to Perry's tenor voice. And that's exactly what Arnel can do.

The bottom line is that nobody ever said Arnel was better than Perry. Even the Filipino fans will tell you that.

BTW, the band's drummer Deen Castronovo is also a great singer, performing lead vocals on "Mother Father" (a song done by Perry in the past) on live shows.

Just get Journey's first album. You will thank me.
Journey with Perry has some good stuff but some seriously sappy cheese whiz.

Open Arms was the best song I've seen Arnel sing.

So did anybody go see Journey Wednesday night at Irvine? I was there. With them was Heart and Cheap Trick. I've never seen any of them before but always wanted too (although I didn't actually see Cheap Trick since by the time I got to my seat they finished, but I did hear them). I was blown away with how well the Filipino singer did. Knowing he came from a family that didn't have money and was poor all his life and his mother died and.... then to see him up there singing for Journey, all I could think is that he is the luckiest person alive. Very happy for him and glad to see him sing for Journey.

I really enjoyed Heart too. However I thought they could do away with playing two cover songs (Who- Rain on me, Led Zep - Going to Cali). Great songs, but I wanted to hear Heart. Their stage set lacked too. Nothing there.

Ever since joining Journey, things have changed dramatically for Arnel. After a successful world tour, he returned to the Philippines to participate in the local version of Deal or No Deal, and this is what happened...

"You'd never had made it to where you are right now if your heart wasn't full. You wouldn't have won this million if your heart wasn't full."

Notes
1. 1 million pesos = roughly US$20,000. 200 pesos = roughly US$4.00.
2. The host of the show is Kris Aquino, daughter of former Philippine president Corazon Aquino (who was a big fan of Family Feud that she sent Mark's father an autographed photo of herself).
