Journey announce new singer

GRAN DIA

Voice and Guitar
After Jeff Scott Sotos sudden departure from Journey, they took some time off to search for a singer who was relatively unknown in the music biz. It seems Neal Schon found their new singer through Youtube of all places. His name is Arnel Pineda and he is a Filipino singer from Quezon City in the Phillipines. He was discovered after singing covers of various rock songs including Journey covers in his hometown cover band "The Zoo". Here are some of the clips that were seen by the band that convinced them to meet up with and audition him. I think he has what it takes, the guy has an outstanding huge warm voice, amazing tonal pitch and control. This guy has one of those voices that really could be one in a million. Pretty cool story to be found on youtube and become the new lead singer for Journey. They are expected to release a new album in 2008 produced by Kevin Shirley and do a full US tour from what the official site says.

Um,....Ohhh-Kaaaayyyy.o_O I love their old stuff, but the most recent stuff I heard from them was like adult contemporary. The kinda CRAP my parents or grandparents-(if I had any) would listen to! Albeit, that was like 7 years or so ago, but I doubt they've returned to their more ROCKIN' roots!

They got VERY soft much like Def Leppard & Bon Jovi did! I'll listen to their old stuff, but that's about it!

& you could've just posted the links. Takes up alot of bandwidth for all those vids posted. It will prob'ly be deleted or edited by the mods here. Anyway,....:guh:

Why don't they get if over with and get HUGO in the band. Does anyone know a better fit?

JSS was the perfect fit and they wont be able to find another replacement as good without getting Steve Perry.

I agree Dolamite. I won't be buying any of their future output due to JSS leaving. To be quite honest, I don't care who's at fault with his departure, it just sealed the deal for me to quit taking this band seriously. JSS wasn't a Perry clone, yet could've taken the band in a fresher direction. With that said, Neal seems to be stuck on sticking with the age old idea of recruiting a no name clone. :erk:

I wonder if the same people bitching about this guy bringing the band back to it's roots bitched about Annette taking Nighwish away from theirs...

IMO JSS was a nice guy, but he had no business singing the older songs. He did not have the range or clarity that Perry did.

And Journey, like another band that has been under fire for similar reasons, can do whatever they want when it comes to finding a front man (or woman).

It is interesting how personally people take it when their favorite musician leaves a band for whatever reason.

NOBODY has a voice like Perry, period. I will continue to enjoy Journey because they put out good music and have great singers. They will never find anyone that sounds exactly like Perry, ever.

Journey is now on the whatever list. Great band with a great past. But what are they on now singer number 4? What is the point. All of the singers are copies of Steve Perry, why not just get him back in the band for one giant world tour, make tons of money and make fans happy.

Augeri was good in the band and that tour with the cd was a good tour and they looked like they were going somewhere but now Journey is good for the memories. They need to take a look at Van Halen's strategy.

As in getting Perry back & charguing $8,000 a ticket?o_O :p

....and putting on a hell of a show. I'm assuming you're somewhat bashing VH for doing this? They couldn't charge it if people didn't pay it and the show really is good. I saw it in NC a couple of months ago and I'm going back when it hits Atlanta! I'd do the same for Journey probably.

I agree with John there only one Steve Perry and you could never get that voice unless they get Steve back.......... Arnel has a great voice, really nice vibrato and will do a great job in Journey.

Well, Nightwish didn't get a clone for one thing. You made my point for me about JSS. Journey just wants to be a classic act touring on their old catalog, period. I believe that JSS can write quality music, thus contributing to the band. Plus, he could've taken the band in a slightly different direction sound wise.

I think it boils down to the fact that Neal doesn't want anyone else contributing to the music. If he gets a no name, then most likely he/she is more likely to do whatever they're told. JSS is a renowed singer/songwriter, so he probably is a little more complicated to have around. That's just a guess on my part.

That is outrageous but people are paying it. I went to see Van Halen last month and it was an excellent show. I did not pay $8,000.00 for my ticket though.

I would drop at least $100 to 125.00 to see Steve Perry back in Journey. I would also pay that and maybe a little more to see Led Zep if they do tour next year. I was too young the first time around so it would be cool.

I wouldn't pay more than $40-somethin to see just ONE band! diff for festivals such as PPUSA or the like! But, NO band is worthy of paying that much just to see them & them alone, or even w/2 openers!

I did read;& not by scalpers either; that VH tix were $2,000 for te good seats! I could buy a bigs-creen TV for that much! HEll, I could buy ALOT for that much! That is almost enough to go away on a really nice vacation for a week! & I'd get more than just 2 hours out of it!

VH, Ru$h, Ki$$, & Aero$mith are all getting too damn greedy! Add Crue to that list too! If VH hadn't been arguing & fighting so much the last several years, & being egotistical assholes, they'd have been able to do CD's/tours regularly & wouldn't be so desparate for $$! Not my fault they can't bury the hatchet! Yes, people will pay. But that's 'cuz they like to throw money away! Hell, if you wanna thriw it away that bad, give it to me! Fools & their $ are soon parted! I WISH I had $ to just frivolously waste on such things!

Well, yes & no. Can't deny that a change of singer greatly changes the band's sound! +, when you've been listening to whatever band for years & they change singers, & if you don't like the new guy/girl; it's hard to continue listening to their new stuff. & to a lesser degree this can happen w/the musicians too. The drums in SLAYER were no where's near as killer w/Paul Bostaph as w/Dave Lombardo! & every other lead guitarist that played for Testament after Skolinck couldn't hold a candle to his playing, takent, nor style; nor his melodies!
