A good compressor or not?

I’ve been experimenting with my Marshall MG Mini Stack practise amp and my metal zone and have been getting some interesting results, by using the eq on my desk.

I was thinking of putting a compressor between the SM58 and desk, to give it a bit more punch.

Would anyone one knows of a good outboard compressor for this, or anything else for that matter.

Not that this is what you asked, but an outboard compressor would probably be one of the last things I'd be looking for in your situation.
