A killer SD high gain pickup shootout

The shoot-out and playing are great!

One thing I wonder though... which pickup was the amp dialed for? That would have a massive effect on the perceived outcome of the test.

I also asked that myself. I guess it was dialed in with the first pickup, the distortion.
Imagine it would have been dialed in with the Dimebucker :)

Another thing I don't understand after hearing this great shoot-out was Seymour Duncans own soundchart

How the pickups are eq'ed there with the numbers really didn't get along with what was heard often.

OT: whats a good neck pickup to pair the duncan distortion with?

'59 or SD Jazz, can't go wrong with any of them, they complement Distortion really well. The former is exactly what I am putting in my 7stringer along with Distortion atm.

As far as the shoot-out is concerned, I like Distortion the most. Invader is middle of the road sounding wise for me. JB is too middy sounding here. Alternative 8, on the other hand, too much scooped. I also like 59/custom hybrid, and Custom is also pretty cool. Dimebacker is pure crap with these amp settings obviously. As for Blackouts, I would care only for Standard model, others don't do it much for me.

My Edward came with the Distortion neck, and I actually like it a lot.
I've had guitars with low-output neck pickups and sometimes they get so undergained compared to the bridge, but with this setup it sounds really balanced. YMMV

I actually use a Bridge model JB in the neck of my Jackson with a Distortion in the Bridge. I think it sounds pretty good. I think it gets a pretty Isis sounding neck pickup sound. I'm not really a fan of the undergained and weak sounding neck pickup sound, like someone else mentioned.

good shootout.. the ones i really noticed were the Dimebucker, Custom and Alternative. In no order..
