Here is a amplifier shootout organised by a dutch forum: http://gitaarnet.nl/forum

The shootout is almost a year old and it surprised me that it hasn't been post here yet.

Here are some youtube video's (part 1 out of 11):

And here are the files:
Medium gain stuff:

Medium gain stuff with backing track:

High gain stuff:

This was recording chain:
Neumann TLM170
EV RE20
SM57 (mic position can be seen in the first youtube video).
2x i88x interfaces and a Yamaha 01x (24/96)
Guitar supposedly directly into the Yamaha i88x.
Then Line out into a Lehle P-split into the amplifiers.

Funny is, that most people who attended at this shootout where not 100% satisfied with the shootout and the reamping. They thought that because of the re-amping all the "character" of the amps disappeared. Also they think all the tracks sound a lot like each other due to the same mic/cab setup.

To me this video looks like all over the place. I started watching it and was like what amp are they playing through which cab, who is playing what and who are all these people. And why do they all sound like they have a throat infection?

Any comments on their wierd re-amp setup? I've never seen anyone use a Lehle P-split.

The amplifier closest to the mixing board (the one with a input cable) is connected, then they have a long speaker cable running to another room where a speaker cabinet is located.

Not a very good shoot out imho, there are things lacking like boost pedals, PROPER micing for each amp.

nice to hear the differences though.
It was an "honest" shoot, meaning that all amplifiers were recorded and reamped with the exact same setup to see what the real differences were between the amps.
It's not the best shoot out, but the purpose was not to demonstrate what a amplifier is truly capable off after hours of tweaking but to show the differences.
