Hey, share some songs that you think have kick-ass guitar solos, and we'll make a big list. Instrumentals don't count BTW. Here are some I've thought of:

Hear N' Aid - "Stars" (Totally rad. The longest solo break I've heard, and alot of great guitarist contribute too.)
Racer X - "Street Lethal"
Helloween - "Giants"
Night Ranger - "Don't Tell Me You Love Me"
Helstar - "Toward the Unknown"
Yngwie Malmsteen - "I'll See the Light Tonight"
War & Peace - "Playing God Again"
Dio - "Born on the Sun" (guitarist was 18 at the time)
Thin Lizzy - "Thunder and Lightning"
Grim Reaper - "See You in Hell"
Manowar - "Blood of My Enemies"
Extreme - "Pornograffitti"
Accept - "Fast as a Shark"
UFO - "Lights Out"

Guns N Roses - Sweet Child O Mine
Dokken - Heaven Sent
Dokken - Night By Night
Van Halen - Eruption
Judas Priest - Beyond The Realms Of Death
Poison - Life Goes On
WASP - The Idol
WASP - Sleeping In The Fire
Ratt - Way Cool Jr.
Vinnie Vincent - Rocks On Fire (the intro solo)
Vinnie Vincent Invasion - Back On The Streets
Vinnie Vincent Invasion - Animal (the outro phwoar!)
Slaughter - Reach For The Sky
Kiss - Reason To Live
Nitro - Crazy Love
Ozzy Osbourne - nearly every song that Jake or Randy play on lol
Pantera - We'll Meet Again
Scorpions - No One Like You (love the harmonies!)

As you asked for solos i'm going to mention solos by new bands as well. :)

Megadeth - Tornado of Souls
Megadeth - Hangar 18
Iron Maiden - Brave New World

Metallica - Ride The Lighting
Judas Priest - Painkiller

Anything from "The Odyssey" by Symphony X.

Opeth - Advent
Death Angel - Bored
Shadowsfall - That one song...

Now you have to adore Arch Enemy - Ravenous

I have a love/hate relationship with solos. If they are done right, they can be an awesome addition to a song. Too often, though, it's just a bunch of fucking wanking going on that doesn't fit the song. I'm no musician, so technical ability doesn't mean shit to me. I can pretty much break it down to the rudimentary question: Does it sound sweet?

That said, my vote is for any solo on Obituary's Cause Of Death.

Yeah I hate it when you get a mildly cool sounding solo that just doesn't fit. Dream Theater is excellent at not doing this. They'll have 3 second solos or a few minute long solos, all fitting. Pick up Images and Words.

Man, there's so many great tracks. Here's just a few that come to mind-
MSG-Gimme Your Love
Scorpions-The Zoo
UFO-Lights Out/Doctor Doctor
Dokken-Paris is Burning
Judas Priest-Living After Midnight
Whitesnake-Crying' in the Rain
Metallica-Whiskey in the Jar & Turn the Page
*I know they aren't Metallica originals, but the guitar work
on a "rock level" is out of this fucking world.
Kenny Wayne Shepherd-Voodoo Child & also While We Cry(this is an original blues tune, if you haven't heard this guy, check him out! this track was recorded when he was 17 years old! Both of these tracks are instrumentals)
George Lynch-Any track off his solo record-Sacred Groove
Joe Satriani-"Friends" & "Summer Song"-both off The Extremist
Ratt-Way Cool Jr.(very catchy blues influenced riffage!)
There's sooooooooo many more, but this is just some of the straight ahead rock tracks that came to mind....
there's some great stuff on the lists I've seen.
Before I forget....
Let me throw in Motley Crue-"Teaser" great cover, tastey guitar playin' goin' on here! KISS-Unholy(Bruce plays like a man possessed on this track!)

:headbang:

The thing that gets me with alot of Warren's solos, is the sexy, raunchy sound he can somehow get! He really makes his guitar sing in a very sexy sounding way, and Way Cool Junior is a perfect example! Especially the lead guitar in the outro near the end.

Megadeth/Tornado Of Souls
Iron Maiden/Caught Somewhere In Time
Testament/Over The Wall
Sepultura/Desperate Cry
Slayer/Die By The Sword
Pantera/Floods
Dream Theater/Home
Winds/Passion's Quest
Fates Warning/Guardian
Spiral Architect/Cloud Constructor

This is great example of guitar shredding on the "heavier" side.
Great List!
