A little help please.

When I record my guitar straight into my soundcard it sounds like ass. I have no DI or pres for recording. So, my question is this: If I used the hi-z ins on my PA mixer and use the 1/8" outs to the soundcard would that help? Purchasing anything is out of the question right now since I am currently a bum.

Yeah, what you described should work. Guitars have to be plugged into a hi-z input. Directly connecting it to a line-in won't work.
